Full discloser, I'm "older" and really don't get down much with a lot of these newer jambands. That said, I never really dug SCI or WSP until the first Lockn, so maybe I'll get some new music that I end up liking, or I hang at the camp for those guys, LOL!
Guess I should head over to that complaint thread!

I have friends in C-Ville and have been to every Lockn'- even the phishy one (well, 3 out of 4 days, LOL). So, yea, hoping for some TTB. I was surprised that they were not one of the first announced and then started to worry that the Queen Of Lockn' wasn't going to show this year. I loved it last year that they got an evening slot and that year in the forest was just the coolest.
So, I'll be back around 3! Woot!

I will also say that probably the majority of the rude bastards may have been of the "fratboy" type. Look, I had a fucking blast and can't wait until next year. As far as teaching the younger people how it's done, I don't know. Like I said, there is not much we don't tolerate at shows/festivals. To each his own, man- that goes for how you dress (or not), dance, the drugs you take, how drunk you like to get, etc., etc. But common decency and respect ARE things we have all been taught. There is no need to trample a woman with a child in her arms so you can get closer to ABB!

Wow, I hope that's not directed at me. Young and stupid is one thing, rude and obnoxious can be a problem at any age. I never confronted anyone who was talking, pushing, shoving, etc. But I did see people ask others to shut up or move back, direct them to a clear isle instead of shoving folks out of the way. I understand settings like this, believe me. Mine was simply an observation of the crowd this year vs. last year.
And since I am OLD I'll just say that I remember pre 1987 and how chill the scene was. No gate crashers, no throwing bottles and shit. After 1987 I recall how the older heads kind of "taught" the "young and stupid" the correct behavior at Dead shows. I mean, come on- there is not much "behavior" that is frowned upon in our scene, but I do think common courtesy and respect for the other 30,000 people around you is something everyone should practice.
Guess those old-time ideals might be lost on this generations jamband fans. Or I'm too old...

Traffic, getting in: Well of course this year was nearly flawless, I think. We waited maybe 15 minutes on the road and another 1 hour to get into the camp site. Getting out was also easy. 100 times better than last year
Late night: Well, I have to say that I loved the fact that not a lot of people wandered over to see Jorma and then Phil & Family last year. I mean we walked right up in front both nights. This year the stages were closer and everyone was there. Which was great, it made for a huge show/party late into the night.
Crowd: OK, I am new here (lurked for a year) so you guys don't know me. I'm 51 and have been seeing shows since 1979. I always loved how most heads knew enough about concert behavior so as not to ruin it for those around you. Last years crowd may have been older maybe, but this year was different. First of all, the Hot Tuna show was acoustic and not very loud, of course. I was about halfway up and every person around me was talking through the whole thing. Loud talking, coke snorting, and rude. I just don't get it, man. Hot Tuna, tripping in the woods, and nothing but loud obnoxious talking and yelling.
I also would like to point out that all the people Sunday night who threw my chairs to the side, jumped over us, pushed us out of the way, stepped all over our shit, etc. need to grow the fuck up. Especially the guy who burned my arm with his cigarette as he pushed my son out of the way, knocked over my friend's chair, and crashed into a woman and her child in front of us. Nice. And we were behind the VIP platform, not up front! Oh, and once they got to where they were going they talked through the whole show. WTF? I didn't see much of that last year.
Services: By this I mean porta-potties, showers, water, etc. Our huge field had no johns anywhere nearby. We had to walk about a mile, so I wish they had set them up nearby. Last year we had them at the edge of our field. Maybe it was better elsewhere. We were in Infinity field. We did have a water tank where we could wash up, so that was awesome. Oh, and were had about 1/3 of the walk we had last year Cell phone service was terrible this year!
Vendors: Wow, way better than last year. Great food, beer, etc. Awesome product vending as well!
Fellow campers: Last we had blasting music and yelling, fireworks all night. This year our field was pretty mellow by about 3AM. Much better sleeping!
Weather: HOT. Come on Virginia, why is so hot? Just kidding. Weather was great, the rainbow was too cool. Even the evacuation was OK since it got us out of the downpour and back to camp to re-up
Music: I almost didn't go once Bob backed out. So, yea, I missed seeing Furthur and last year we got so much! I do have to give the nod to last year, but shit, I am so glad I went. ABB was the best, Petty was a fun singalong. I also like Wilco (surprisingly). I wasn't to into seeing so much Cheese, but they always bring it and it it was a blast. Grace was good fun, too. And of course, Tedeschi/Trucks... LOVE. Great times, man!
