Although I realize that by nature of stumbling upon this forum, one would have to have some level of tech-savviness, I also realize that not everyone has a firm grasp on all the subtle little nuances of the experience here. To be succinct, if you're having difficulty with any technical aspect of this site (lots of people, for instance, do not have avatars. That may or may not be intentional) and you need help, feel free to PM me.

...when you're in the editor, switch over to BBcode. ..happens to me all the time.

Not natively, I don't think, but you could try Googling for a browser plug-in or Greasemonkey script that might do it.
