Dont know if this is news to any fellow va residents but There is a bill (va sb 686) that has been introduced this session. Do a quick search and maybe send an email or letter to your rep urging them to support the vote.
It is not a perfect solution but it is a start to decriminalize in VA.

dude, awesome. it's definitely a start. i doubt it'll go anywhere, though. this will be the last state to legalize it.
i'll be sure to spread the word to my fellow va residents

Oh, I'll bet ol' Pennsyltuckey'll give VA a run for its money. Look at the nutty alcohol laws we still have. Only state more restrictive: Utah.

I'm sticking with my prediction with the year 2525 for legal weed in VA.dude, awesome. it's definitely a start. i doubt it'll go anywhere, though. this will be the last state to legalize it.

But I agree it's no surprise. It could happen when big tobacco gets behind it, though, but I think that will first take a lift of the federal laws on the subject (even if they allowed states to control instead).

But yeah, Ima havta concede to sneake: lose your license for six months over a misdemeanor possession charge? What kind of state (well, commonwealth) are you running down there anyway?
And this-

I think he meant the highest (pun intended) LEGAL use ....
I have a young relative in Colorado who was asked, what was it like after they legalized? she said, same as before.
if you can't ban it, control it--that's the better policy IMO.

The legalization is only for those over 21 years of age, so unless he's got a real loose definition of "kids," I stand by my statement.

Agreed. That statement is way too loose to "prove" factually. Or, if Colorado is in fact #1 for percentage of minors smoking pot (someone has to be #1), we don't know if there was a change in that demographic after legalization, much less if it was caused by it. Anyway you slice it, without a pie chart (pun intended) it's meaningless--and therefore typical.
"Meaningless statistics have increased 6.45% this quarter...."

The problem with "statistics" is you can go on line & get as many for as you can against. The people in "power" will always use the against. Like Smosey Wales points out there no good statistics for the before legal. Just like alcohol I started getting into bars when I was 17 back in the 70's. Also had a older brother that would get it for me. So legal or illegal they will get it & from what I read it's still less for the illegal.

I think this will eventually turn on the question of tax revenue. State legislatures will eventually legalize to try to balance budgets. Unfortunately in VA that probably means well have to ne losimg tax revenues to surroumding states. Colorado isnt close enougj.

an article said that 70% of Virginians support decriminalizing possession of small amounts. Not that we run things on popular vote anyway, but the economic component will be the thornier issue, and no way they'll let go of what control they have until that's in place.
