Probably not worth a trip for any of you who don't already live nearby, but since there's at least one fest (that isn't strictly bluegrass) near my homeland, I have to post about it. Especially since my homeland is nearly as middle-of-nowhere as Arrington. I could just about ride my bicycle from the house I grew up in. Now I kinda wish I still lived there.

Cool that they included some local acts, too. I've seen Hillybilly Gypsies several times and ate lunch with them backstage at a fest I worked. Last year or the year before, they had a band who got started at the private fest we attend every Memorial Day. This is gonna be the fest-going equivalent of putting on a pair of favorite well-worn blue jeans for me.

And it's been fairly consistently at that level, too. Dunno how I only found out about this last year. Wasn't always in that exact location, though. I'm just glad the area will be getting a much needed capital infusion that doesn't involve raping the natural resources for once.

We saw them at Wanee last year and I knew it was either going to be a train wreck or a lot of fun. We had a blast. I've listened to the show and it was played with proficiency and a lot of spirit. I'm a fan of Floyd, Talking Heads and the Fishes. I can see if someone was really negative about any of the three it wouldn't be all that great. Nothing profound but a fun way to spend a day set.

seconded! pink talking fish were a ton of fun. only songs i really knew were the floyd ones, but i had a great time, too. i also saw them at wanee last year.

Dunno yet, other than included in ticket price. I heard about it last year, but I didn't get to go. I have friends that go; I'll talk to them and get back to you.

It's in the Endless Mountains (sounds like something outta Tolkein, eh?), so don't expect a lot of flat.

Unfortunately, it's in the other direction from where I live to here: bit.ly/1GNDTjS. The good news is it's right up the road from Rock Run: bit.ly/1LkC2cT. Most of the images you see with a pool in the stream are the little swimming hole. This one shows the big one: bit.ly/18zd6MQ, but it's cut off, so you can't tell it's an 8 ft drop on one side and a 10 ft drop on the other. Can't tell that's like 20 ft of water, either. Also not shown is a big pine tree on the 10 ft side that's basically a ladder, if you want to double your jump. It is, to use the local parlance, funner'n hell.

Ok...spent some time today listening to clips of the bands on this card that I'm not familiar with. And now I am REALLY excited that we're going to this fest. A big bluegrass fix with a touch of the Dead. I can see myself dancing all weekend. :-)
