OK I hate acronyms: Nitty Gritty Dirt Band: Will the Circle Be Unbroken Vol II
Pulled out this old album and what a treasure! The first one (1972) was serious roots country and old-time. This later project (1989) put then emerging, now respected, artists jamming with the fine base of the talent of NGDB and many legends they brought together.
The legends: Johnny Cash, Carter Family, Chet Atkins, Clements/Scruggs, Roy Acuff, Jimmy Martin.
Add the core of the folk/country/rock transition: Roger McGuinn, Levon Helm, Emmylou Harris, John Prine, Chris Hillman,
Some new at the time: Bruce Hornsby, Sam Bush, Bela Fleck, New Grass Revival, Ricky Scaggs, Rosanne Cash
The core: Jeff Hanna, Jimmy Ibotson, Randy Scruggs, Jerry Douglas, John McEuen
And a few others (OK John Denver--I'm not a fan of his performances but I like his writing)
