I dunno what first prompted the Family to excise alcohol. Probably it's that a lot of Rainbows jump-start their "spiritual experience" with chemistry. Drunk people are always annoying, but they're downright intolerable when tripping.

My problem with A camp was not that alcohol is accepted; it's the tacit acceptance of "hard" drugs. Perhaps that was not your experience, but every staunch A camper I've ever met has been a junkie of one form another.

The chemical dependency industrial complex (detoxes, rehabs, 12 step groups) like to say, "a drug is a drug is a drug," but that's simply not true. Some stoners and acid freaks are untrustworthy, but you can NEVER trust a junkie.
