Family Camping

it is a big confusing dark venue. Definitely leave the 4 year old at home. Then keep the others on a leash (figuratively) the whole time.

I would say that the kids might be a bit young for this festival.  It's big and dark at night with a lot of room to get lost.  Also we only slept about 5-6 hours each night. That being said, you are the parent and you know your children the best.  I brought my 15 year old last year and he had the time of his life.  It was just the two of us and we are going back again this year.  Thought about bringing my wife and younger kids, 13 and 10, but decided against it.  We have all been to see a great deal of music together and we have tickets to Wilco's festival in the Berkshires Solid Sound, also on our anniversary (26th).  Much more family friendly in my opinion.

With regard to family camping it was perfect for us last year.  It was car camping and a bit quieter and separate from the regular camping.  I did see some younger children in the camping area and I am going to assume that they may have gone to bed earlier.  Perhaps the parents took turns for the shows that were later in the evening.  Let me know if you have any other questions, be glad to share my observations.

For Family Camping you need to buy a car camping pass. You will probably need two car camping passes to do what you want, depending on the size of your tents.

1000 sq ft. for < 40 ft RV

1400 sq ft for > 40 ft RV



You are allowed to set up canopies next to your car/tent without purchasing another car camping pass as long as you remain within the allotted campsite.

Thanks guys. I'm excited that my kid is as excited as I am.

I stayed in family camping both years. Year one was the furthest away for the main stage but was close to the Triagle stage. Year two was a quick walk to the main stage but had major overflow from other camping areas as car camping filled up.

It is highly unlikely that the management will do anything to keep non-family campers from coming into your area and using your facilities, so it comes down to whether yours are out of the way from the masses and the foot traffic.

Last year the storm took out most of the portajohns on site and they could not, they said, get the same quantity on line in time--ours were damaged/dumped and all the rest in the state were taken.

Then they were not able to process them during the event as planned; they built a disposal site nearby but it was overwhelmed so the trucks had to make long trips.

They have never adequately serviced the VIP facilities, so they seldom if ever are available as promised. However, a basic portajohn is much more durable and capable; the fancy ones are too fragile.

Point is, be flexible, be ready to tolerate problems, and don't tell your family members there may be a problem if they are squeamish!

I just wanted everyone to know there will be no designated family camping this year. That's what they told me in an email. I begged and pleaded to no avail.

I told her that Suebhunny. That my kids wake up at 6 am but sleep through anything. We're good but I feel bad for my neighbors.

I' asked if there was enough interest would they change their decision. "We will keep your info and contact you if there is a change"

As long as they don't move the venue I'm good. If they do then cue the outrage...

I say we all call and grill them about family camping.
