VIP--more expensive, I personally don't see that much value in it, but others do (bathrooms/showers are nice, but not worth that much to me). I don't know much about the camping there. It is very close to main stage.
Car Camping: You have to meet up with your friends and line up and go in together, as they put you into sites as you arrive. Some people like the security and access to power/air conditioning. Lots are small. You could be somewhat close, or you could be a haul from the main stage.
GA RV--I don't know how they park people, I think they line you up as you go in, so you would have to line up w/ friends
Forest--It was crowded last year, with very little control of who went in there (apparently a lot of people w/ GA camping?) You get shade is nice, especially if it is hot like last year. It is near Triangle but a ways from main stage. I think it had some reputation as noisy last year.
GA Camping--my personal favorite, so I am biased. Did it last year, doing it again this year. Close enough to all the stages, can go back to camp for dinner without missing much, can hear main stage from camp. Lots more room to spread out. You can camp w/ others, even if you don't all arrive together. You do have to haul your stuff from the car to campsite, although it is not that far, especially if you get there early.
So, all of them are trade-offs in location/money/access to car, etc. Pay your money and you take your chances. I chose mine because I think those are the best trade-offs.
Don't worry about being by yourself--pretty much impossible at a fest. We went last year without knowing much of anybody, made friends. This year we have some more friends going to camp with.

We like to camp right next to the car for a couple of reasons. First...we don't pack light. We like to set up a nice, sweet camp with a shade canopy, a kitchen, a large tent with cots, and a privacy tent. All of that stuff is heavy to haul very far. And second, we like having the ability to lock things up in the car. I don't like to go to fests without my guitar, and I would hate life if my guitar got stolen. I also like to be able to lock up extra cash in my car so I don't have to carry all of my money on me, risking loss or theft.
You will not be alone. And we will definitely have a forum meet and greet early in the fest so you can make new friends. I loved that we hosted the meet & greet at our camp last year because after that we had forum members making random visits to our camp for the rest of the festival. It was fantastic.

Our first decision was to VIP or not to VIP. The economics hurt a bit. Worse the second year than the first and unlikely to get better. Our decision was driven by age. Making the potentially long trek to camp multiple times per day was not an option for us. Having access to a larger number of restrooms being used by a smaller population also a plus. Making the payment is painful but we wouldn't be there without this option.
Next - If you have an RV, bring it. They've done a good job with the hook-ups etc...
If your flying in and don't want to cart your gear there are rental options on the grounds or lodging packages available. There are shuttles for off-site lodging. We met people happy with shuttle schedules and others less so. The on-site RV rentals are a bit pricy but we met several new friends that rented the on-site tents and one 'glamping' camper that was quite happy.
Driving in - The posts above do a good job describing options. GA is a fun experience if you can still pull if off.

It is a different animal than Wanee. The music is spectacular but the camping isn't nearly as good. There is VERY LIMITED shade. No Spanish moss in sight but you do get to see some high ground. We call those tall humps of dirt "mountains". There is a great deal of info in these threads you just gotta poke around. If you have any questions feel free to hit me up. I'll pm you my digits.

But lockn' rocks, just go and you won't be disappointed. Its fairly standard set-up wise, car / RV camping you need to drive in with your friends, same with VIP but you are much closer and better benefits which are generally in line with those seen in other festivals. The preferred tent camping or tent only (whatever they are calling it this year), and forest camping you can spread out some and save room for late comers. The campgrounds which are further from the main stage are closer for the morning and evening sets at the triangle stage.

Forest camping was a really cool place but prob the farthest away. I came very early Friday morning and found a nice spot in car camping along the tree line but even that filled up a little over the weekend.
I only took a golf cart tour of SVIP and it was cool. I think VIP RV camping was the closest to the entrance of main music area, again, pretty tight and no shade.
Next year im gonna try and do family camping or sober camping. much quieter and lass crowded.

I had friends come in Sunday , camping that one night, and they had come from a winery tour with a case (not intending to drink it there). They were mid-50's respectable types. Oops. The searcher confiscated one bottle, let them keep the rest. Make sense? Reminds me of border crossings in Southeast Asia.
I suggest if you have tools that you ordinarily would have in the vehicle, stow them away deep, not so much as to hide from the search, but to show you don't have them along for this trip, and don't bring bottled food and bev.
