I read that chairs and umbrellas are only allowed behind the soundboard. Was this rule in place in 2014 and did they enforce it? In 2013, people pretty much had chairs everywhere. I believe the rule was in place at the Blue Ridge Bowl as well, but the entire orchestra area was filled with them. Agreed, and also in the GA section (which CID doesn't control, I believe) there were chairs everywhere at night. Daytime, when the crowd is thinner and you can see, not so much a problem, but they set up barriers of folding chairs and abandoned them--as well as some half-tents (shade at night? seriously?) ETA the backpack beach chair is a good rig. it's a long hike for many people and even longer going home at night! You're right and that was the consensus after the event last year: in the back, no problem; to the side, no problem, even toward the front early, no problem. But when it got dark and crowded, it was absurd. In fact, during the night shows, most of the seats were unoccupied; the owners stood in front of them! And worse, the selfish wooks who had the lines of chairs got a big attitude about people knocking them over "accidentally", kicking, moving and blocking. People also spread blankets/tapestries in the crowded areas but they were easy enough to walk across to make the point. It's all about being considerate. They did not enforce this rule at Lockn. There were chairs all over the place in the VIP cage and to be honest it was a safety hazard. What made it worse is that there was only one exit from that area. Would have been bad if we needed to get out of there in a hurry. I have addressed this with CID and suggested that they enforce the no chairs in front of the soundboard rule and to provide two exits from any fenced in areas.

So I, and I know many here, would like that one rule enforced--there are other rules I would trade!
Suggestion: Bring a chair and a small luggage lock, so you can fold it up and chain it to a fence, out of the way, when not in use and at night. Or don't lock it; lots of people left chairs sitting around. Me, I wouldn't worry about them in the day time but at night, some people's honesty seems to fade....

Was the no chairs in front of the soundboard thing a rule last year? I didn't see it and they certainly were everywhere. I didn't know if it wasn't a rule or was but not enforced.

one consistency at Lockn last year was that very little was enforced. Often that is good; not always.

That's a great idea. Was wondering if schlepping a chair around all day for partial use would be worth it. That takes care of both issues. Thanks for the responses. I know back in 2013, a lot of people would bring chairs and sit when the opposing stage had the band playing. Then when the music switched, the chairs would disappear.
