This is THE FESTIVAL of festival's. At least that's what I've been told anyway. I'm not into that end of the head scene anymore. But there's always a maybe as fests grow and change you never know.

from what i can tell from the various articles and documentaries i've seen on the subject, it takes a special kind of person. personally, i have no interest in burning man. it would be cool to see all of the art installations, but the rest would be less to my liking. no music. no vendors. half the crowd is crazy artistic types (which i can dig) and the other half is wealthy folks looking to "have an experience." no thanks.

I went to Burning Man in the 90s. Definitely is not the same Fest, which could be a good or bad thing depending on your perspective. Interesting to say the least...This is THE FESTIVAL of festival's. At least that's what I've been told anyway. I'm not into that end of the head scene anymore. But there's always a maybe as fests grow and change you never know.

Burning Man and music festivals are radical opposites in their underlying philosophies.
When we go to music festivals, we are passive consumers. We pay the promoters money, and wealthy professional entertainers make us happy. We walk over to professional food vendors, give them money, and they feed us. And at the end of the weekend, hired hands clean up the big mess we leave behind.
At Burning Man, we are active participants. We make our own non-professional, unpaid entertainment. We make our own food and feed each other. We pick up our own trash and leave the playa as spotless as when we arrived...no one cleaning up after us.
I'm not saying one is better than the other. It's like some people spend Sunday watching football, others spend the time playing frisbee in the park. To each his own, and many enjoy both.
BTW, there are some regional Burning Man events, like Transformus in NC. And in Richmond VA the Party Liberation Front does some cool things now and again.
