At the jamband shows, there are the two primary types of posers--the young ones and the old ones.

A young phish fan tells me that the phish crowd is not as kind as I have experienced at the fests I've attended. Without disparaging anyone - any thoughts on a potential change in the atmosphere given the line up? I really don't know a lot of the bands and the spirit of the thing matters quite a bit to me.

I am part of the Phish crowd. Those that want to find a difference in the vibe because of what they think are big differences between Phish fans and other fans will surely find what they are looking for. If you go to have fun, see some great music and hang out with some awesome like minded people that is what you will find. You get to choose your experience.

This thread seems like an odd place to have this conversation but to beat a dead horse some more I would like to chime in.
I too am a Phish phan, as I imagine many who already attend lockn happen to be as well. I just don't see why Phish has such a negative stigma, hate their music if you will. Don't assume something about a whole fanbase where there are all different types of people represented.

I was not implying anything negative about Phish or their fans. I'm looking forward to the music. My question was about the overall crowd as someone ( you Worf) had mentioned that it might be a different musical sway for LOCKN. I meant no direspect.

It does, at this point, look to be targeting a slightly younger crowd, but by slightly younger, I mwan mostly middle-aged, so...

I suspect that if you think you see a difference in the crowd it's a factor of age and not the music.
When my children were younger I made a point to take them to a Dead show so they could experience it, including the kindness of the crowd. Some wook lifted all our tickets out of my 12 year old daughter's back pocket. And so it began.

When I come across a younger person I like to strike up a conversation. You know how ya doing, who ya here to see, have ya seen them before. I kind of make it about them so they open up. I have learned a lot from them. Sometimes I see myself or old friends in them. And the fact they are at Lockn' they'll be exposed to some great acts they may have never seen. Always love meeting someone new, it's what it's all about.
