It's the same as the Christmas decorations going up absurdly early--and when you see the fall flavors out now, it calls their bluff on "freshness." Weren't no fall punkins in that brew, ah tell you what. But I don't like pumpkin or other odd-flavored beer anyway. Had pumpkin ketchup in India that was OK, though. Info on the ones I know
Blue Mountain Brewery--20 minutes from Lockn is one operation; the other at the top of Afton about 40 minutes away. Good quality products; good attitude. As one who is moving away from hi-hops IPA (incl theirs) the Steel Wheels ESB (extra strong bitters) is a really good porter-type.
Champion Brewing Company --Charlottesville; their Missile IPA is a good clean one (I brought it to the exchange)
Devil's Backbone Brewing Company Lexington, VA, formerly Nelson Co. good but typical
Lickinghole Creek Brewery--I think the name sells their stuff. Don't know the product.
Local Soapstone Water Filling Stations Yay!
Ragged Mountain Farm Distillery--no liquor, but Virginia Distillery was on site last year for promo
Sierra Nevada Brewing Company no mystery there
South Street Brewery--I think this is a Charlottesville operation, not sure
Starr Hill Brewery--pioneer of East Coast craft brewing, based in Crozet which is west of Charlottesville. Their Dark Starr stout is one of the best stouts out there. Known for consistent quality; they are revamping their labels and marketing, but not the product. Tied into the music business by the owner.
Wild Wolf Brewing Company--popular and typical. Made in the county up near Wintergreen.

If they have it, check out Starr Hill "Snowblind" doppelbock lager, 7.4 ABV. Very rich and thick the way a bock should be

Blue Mountain Brewery made a pumpkin beer, 'Spooky', last year. Did the taste test and really liked it. Bought two bottles and drank one as soon as I got home. Funny thing is that just a couple of weekends ago I realized I still had the second unopened bottle in the fridge. So ... a little was very tasty but an entire beer was plenty.

Which is my complaint for the beer selection last year; it seemed like heavy crafts, funny flavors, or Lite/Light--and I won't drink lite/light.
I do love good fresh iced tea though.

I'm a big fan of some cider when it is really hot out.
I can drink IPA any time, though.
Not a fan of pumpkin beer--I have 1 or 2 every year just to be seasonal but that is about it.
