Last year I was nursing a broken leg and for the most part stayed in the back behind the speakers mid-way through the crowd. Out there I though the sound was full and clear. We moved up in front of the speakers a few times and for Tom Petty in particular where we were standing the sound seemed muted and not as crisp. It could have just been Petty's setup though.

generally I think you are right on, but Tom Petty was a little bit fuzzy everywhere.

I liked positioning my chair almost at the back center but a tad to the right where I had a good view of both stages which wasn't difficult. My main goal was to sit back far enough so that I was clear of the masses. It was nice and open and great for people watching.
