One of my favorite places near lockn to sightsee is Appomattox. Something about those rolling hills gets me everytime.

Brew Ridge Trail and also Nelson 151 are good resources for finding local breweries, wineries, a cidery, and a distillery. I personally love Blue Mountain (great beer & pizzas are delicious) and Devils Backbone breweries. If you like cider, Bold Rock cider has an awesome new cider pub that's worth a stop.

It isn't even illegal for any woman to go topless; no more than it is for men. Because of the alcohol sales, they were actually trying to use a law that applies to strip joints. And we all know what those places do - they just go BYOB. Pretty sure the spirit of that law was not intended for customers.

Technically, it usually isn't even illegal for a woman to go fully nude. A lot of states' decency laws are written to forbid the exposure of genitalia. Not to get all scientific, but the genitals are where the gametes (i.e. sperm or ova, depending) are produced. Ovaries are located internally, and so cannot be exposed by a female disrobing.

A friend of mine got his wife off on an indecency charge during their honeymoon in OBX with that argument.

lots of history all around the area plus beautiful drives. stay off the interstates and roll down the windows. Use a paper map. Drive down Rt 60.

there is a spectacular drive--actually, several--from I-81 over to Arrington (but not for an RV) but that depends on how much time you have.

In the other direction from Appomattox is Lexington; some people overnight there. great stuff to see and drives.

Very true! And if you head about 30 minutes east of Appx, there's the cute little town of Farmville, and a great walking/biking trail.

I am in Richmond, but travel all over the state for my job at Virginia Tourism. You know, Virginia is for Lovers? That's us! We have such a diverse and beautiful state. SWVA is one of my favorite regions in all of VA. The Shore is one as well! Looking forward to hearing your thoughts on the best things to see and do! Glad to have another VA ambassador spreading the news. : )

True dat. And I've motorcycled thru both Switzerland and Highland, and they are way different even on scenery.

Last year we did the farmville Appomattox area and I wish I had a month th spend there. It is so beautiful and so rich in history.
