TL;DR: Son is turning six at Lockn'. Friends will be joining us; their kid is turning eight. I do a lot to keep kids entertained and in the fest mood, but to make this special all I've come up with is giant cards for people to sign and a pinata. Craving ideas.
.
We’ve been taking our Little Man to festivals since he was three. Our attitude has been that we take him to festivals; we’re not just bringing him along with us. So among other things, I gear up to make it as awesome as possible for him and all the other families around us; his cart is chock full of toys, I go through a couple hundred animal balloons in a weekend, he gives away light sticks and pinwheels to other kids (of any age), etc. We even painted our van with chalkboard paint and let everyone decorate it (trying to get /r/FestVan off the ground). He loves going, and starts asking when festival season starts as early as January.
We did the first two Lockn’s on our own (it was our ‘mommy and daddy’ fest), but this year it’s on his birthday. When we told him we weren’t going this year, he asked if we could take him instead. Whoa.
Turns out we’ve got a birthday extravaganza on the way. Friends we met at Hookaville are coming down too, and their son is turning eight (the two kids played together almost all of Hooka). To top it off, one of the great friends we met at Lockn 1 and 2 is turning 50-something on the same day as our dude.
So I’m trying to make it as memorable as possible. All I’ve come up with so far is balloons (of course, but this time helium-filled and a bit more celebratory), posterboard-sized cards with attached markers for people to sign, and a pinata.
...and that’s it so far.
I’m guessing a ride on Bill Nershi’s shoulders is a bit too much to ask. But other than that, anyone have an idea to share?
