that's not how these storms work. You can get 5 inches here and nothing 10 miles away. The video doesn't lie; those were like the rain bands in a hurricane. Also, like a light snow in Virginia that cripples traffic, few of the 20,000 are either equipped or knowledgeable to drive on slippery sloping sod. I learned it in Highland County. Not like any driving elsewhere, and present company excepted, lots of festival goers are pretty clueless when it comes to stuff like that. Weather Underground reports (from NOAA, presumably) that Lovingston got only 0.26 inches of rain today (as of a few minutes before midnight). Doesn't sound like that much in terms of mud problems, which I think would be the big issue now it terms of getting folks in. Am I interpreting that right? The main problem must be toll booths and such rather than inability to drive vehicles onto the farm???

Staunton has some motels. So does Charlottesville.

The official Lockn recommendations (stadium, conference center, mall) all look way too small to handle the amount of people needed! (And they're on the other side of Arrington from us). Called a couple campgrounds and they're full up.

Don't go to the Walmart(s). The local ones are among the few that aren't overnight friendly. Possibly as a result of this fest, sadly enough. Any recommendations for a place to park the RV and spend the night, coming from the north? Looking for a large parking lot with fellow Lockn refugees ideally. A Wal-mart in Charlottesville?

River Ridge Mall, 3405 Candlers Mtn Rd, there is plenty of parking and restaurants.
James River Conference Center, 400 Court Street, there are restaurants and attendees are welcome to stay in the parking lot overnight.
The Hillcats Stadium, 3176 Fort Avenue (enter off Oakley), attendees are welcome to stay in the parking lot overnight.

Well I'm back in the Best Western in Lexington. They tell me I'm not the first. I'll do the same Friday and leave at 3:AM and hope for better. And yes it's a bitch to type on this phone.

If If ya'll can make it there, I'd recommend it. Nice place and the beer is awesome. Also home to The Festy so you could scout it out at the same time. Devil's Backbone is opening their campground for the night. From their Facebook page:

I'm sure I'm asking everyone to look into a crystal ball, but I'm wondering if I should leave as early as possible to get in line for VIP or wait a few hours? It's just a 1.5 hour drive for me so perhaps if I leave around 8AM it'll give the early cars time to get in. Though I guess cars will be coming in at a steady clip all day. Ideally, I'd just want to be set up and ready to go for Doobie Incident.
Given what some of you have been through I feel like I'm suffering from First World Problems.
