Liquor must be in plastic. No glass whatsoever. That being said, I don't know the search procedure for day parking.
Don't know about the tailgating in the day parking, never been there.
You definitely can bring a backpack in with you. Prepare for it to be search thoroughly. The best thing to do is have all your pockets and zippers open before you get to the checkpoint. They seem to take it a little easier if you are prepared and cooperate.
As for your last question, illegal drugs are illegal. Use your common sense and be prepared to face any consequences that come with being caught. While I wish you the best of luck and hope you have an amazing time, getting around security is not a topic of discussion for this board.

The VENUE is no alcohol, food or drinks and therefore no liquids other than one sealed water bottle. In practice, the searches were thorough sometimes, sometimes not.
The rest of the area, the rule they enforced was no glass anything--whether beer or mustard. Then "reasonable quantity of alcohol" they defined as a case of beer or bottle of liquor. Since the purpose apparently was to keep someone from bringing in mass quantities to sell, the search process was imprecise and they weren't counting. And then, due to the huge number to process on day one, the searches were not very thorough, but probably sufficient to meet their liability requirements.

The car searches were ridiculous--the security was making everybody get out of their car, very slow. Not thorough enough to catch anything and way too thorough to keep the line moving efficiently. And then ticketing was slow after that. With the processing crunch of everybody arriving at once they pretty much needed to can the searches and let everybody be on the honor system. Wasn't going to happen but that's what they needed to do.

Searcher: Do you have a cooler?
Me: Yes
Searcher: Does it have any glass in it?
Me: No.
Searcher: Cool now let's look in the camper. I need to see inside of your refrigerator.
Me: You'll need to go in the back door to do that. Let me open that door for you.
Searcher: Is there any glass in there?
Me: No.
Searcher: Great, you are all set.
Lasted less than one minute. Proceeded to get our wristbands and rolled on through. Less than two hours from arrival to entry and we showed up about 5:30 am.
Also never was searched entering the venue, not even once.
Have not heard anyone that was VIP that had any issues waiting in line or intrusive searches. When CID advertised a "Private VIP Entrance with Dedicated, Hassle-Free Check-In" they sure as hell delivered. This seems worth the price of my ticket alone.

I honestly really don't care about the search. I'm not bringing in glass. I am not sneaking food or drink into the venue. I know plenty of people do both.
My only real complaint about the search is that it was very impractical given the crush created from the cancellation of the first day. Instead of people wandering in throughout the day, with music not set to start until 4pm, and quite a few on Friday, we had everybody crushing it first thing in the AM and wanting to get in for Doobie Incident at one.
It worked out for me, because we got there early and were set up by 10 or 10:30. I knew there were a lot of people who could not be processed fast enough at the rate they were going. I felt sorry for them. The entry out of the field was kind of messed up but it didn't matter what system they were using, the bottleneck was at security and ticketing.

I gave my searchers coffee from a thermos (they had been promised coffee, none delivered, so I was a hero) and that made them even happier and hopefully helped those behind me!
One thing to understand is that they probably have to go through the drill to satisfy both ABC and more important, insurance coverage, that they are taking some control and are not running a wide-open event. I don't see it as something they could skip even with the issues caused by the Thursday cancellation.
There were other problems with the lines elsewhere that were not weather/crowd related that could have been anticipated.
My first traffic stop was when I was in the car line on the road (Rt 56 E) at 5:45 am. Got to check-in a little after 9:00 IIRC. The delay was caused by combining VIP and RV, and also because (a) they didn't open RV until 8:00; (b) they only had one scanner at RV, and (c) one RV broke down and clogged the whole works, with no tow truck on site or able to get there. I saw the long line of GA traffic on 29 N at 5:30 when I got on at 56W intersection (where there had been another broke-down RV in the through traffic lane!)
