On my drive into work on the local FM radio:
A live Jessica, with a little Mountain Jam smeared on top, from 1973 (Chuck and Dickie) about 14 minutes long.

I post this not just because the song is Most Awesome, but also as a tribute of gratitude to the great FM radio we have in my hometown of Norfolk Virginia. The station that played this is owned by Bruce Hornsby and truly hearkens back to the FM of the early 1970's. And we have others rounding out the scene.

My reaction to watching a recent live festival clip of Fleetwood Mac. Even though they slowed Dreams down for Mick to keep up, Nick's flat no-range voice was a nightmare. Buckingham's air guitar was better than his solo riff attempts. It was like talent night at the Driftwood Retirement Home.

I love the older artists that still have it but nothing is more embarrassing than the ones who don't and are still out there. PLease, no one wish them on Lockn for the head-spinner!

Day of the Dead (all 5 discs). There was some commentary on a different thread regarding these discs, but here is my 2 cents.

I throughly enjoyed the majority of the tracks (especially discs 1 and 5). You have to listen to these with an open mind and I love the writing skills associated with the good ol Grateful Dead. I actually enjoy when a cover is done in the style of the artist as opposed to just mimicking the Dead. Does it work 100% of the time...nope, but that is the beauty of musically tastes.

Get the discs, kick back and relax....and maybe you will hear something that you haven't heard before, and like it.

Finished up 6-23-88 Alpine Valley (a monster Dew to close, then a double encore of Blackbird and Brokedown). I was there that night. That was night 2 of a run of 4 shows in 5 days in 3 different States. Alpine Valley 6-22&23; off day 6-24 (went to Wrigley field and caught a Cubs-Mets game. Then on to Buckeye Lake on 6-25 and Pittsburgh on 6-26.

Then I started in with a May 17, 1977 show from Alabama. I broke into a huge grin at Jerry's solo at the end of Mississippi Half-Step. Listening to the rest of the first set on the bus ride home today.

Just sat through 7/24/87, because it was on YouTube and I felt like watching a show after the bar. Pretty lackluster. Playing seemed by-the-numbers and cocainel-y sped up. Other than some setlist surprises, like a standalone Scarlet and a Bertha second set ender, pretty unremarkable. See if you agree.
