The Wilco set in 2014 was like a mass exodus in the afternoon. It’s gotta suck to see everybody turning their backs to leave when you come out & then see them piling in at the end of your set.

KRIS KRISTOFFERSON & FRIENDS – Live at the Record Plant 1973
Keyhole (KH2CD9080)[2CD]
This double disc album features 30 tracks from country music legend, Kris Kristofferson, with special guests, Doug Sahm, Rita Coolidge, Nick Gravenites and David Blue.
Kicking off just as a Kristofferson (and band) recording, early on, we are treated to numbers ‘The Late John Garfield’s Blues’, (by John Prine), ‘Loving Her Was Easier (Than Anything I’ll Ever Do Again)’, ‘Billy Dee’, ‘Sunday Morning Coming Down’, among others, yet, there doesn’t appear to be a consistent live feel to the record. Although polite, the audience is quiet and reserved, and certain numbers have more of a ‘jam’ feel to them, rather than the feeling of an actual concert recording.
The bluesiness of ‘Call it Stormy Monday (But Tuesday is Just as Bad) with Doug Sahm, at the end of disc one, is one of the first really noticeable moments of unfiltered audience/ artist engagement on the record. Disc 2 begins with Rita Coolidge who provides us with cover versions of ‘Fever’, Janis Joplin’s ‘A Woman Left Lonely’ and a jazzy take on one of Bob Dylan’s Nashville numbers; ‘I’ll Be Your Baby Tonight’. As far as the album’s “friends” go, Coolidge seems to be the only consistent contributor; for example, the highlight of Nick Gravenites’ short set, is ‘Blue Highway’ and David Blue’s input is minimal. Ms Coolidge on the other hand, returns to the stage again and again; at one point co-delivering an excellent version of ‘Help Me Make it Through the Night’and later, helping round off the album, with ‘Me and Bobby McGee’.
