The Wilco set in 2014 was like a mass exodus in the afternoon. It’s gotta suck to see everybody turning their backs to leave when you come out & then see them piling in at the end of your set.

They showed this video. I recall the song from my youth, but a different version - with some serious changes to the lyrics.
The song is a translation from a French song. Quick WikiLook says the original English translation was done by poet Rod McKuen (whose name I clearly recognized, but I am not a poetry fan) and this is a performance of the song by him. Early 60's.
The song is a dying man speaking to his best friend, his father and his wife. Pretty interesting for the early 60's - definitely not an American folk song.
I'm sure you will recall the song, You can probably sing along to the chorus, but listen to these lyrics. Definitely changed for the popular version I recall. I certainly did not, in my recollection from decades ago, associate this song with death, even though it made clear in the song. Such an upbeat chorus for a dark song.
Just something that tweaked my interest on an otherwise boring afternoon.

The Terry Jacks version was in heavy rotation when I was little. If it's not the first, it's among the first favorite songs I ever had. Thank you for reminding me of it. I'm gonna spin it right now and have a good cry.
Someone I love has covid. I guess it's a good thing that only just now do I personally know anyone with it, but I'm so afraid for her.
