70 years ago, The Modern Jazz Quartet came on the scene, a collection of superb artists who had been with other notables, such as Dizzy Gillespie. I say Milt Jackson succeeded to Lionel Hampton for the vibes master (I recall a jam band at an early Lockn' that featured vibes and wonder why more don't).

This guy is great and he does sound so much like James Brown but he throws a real rock edge in many of his songs. And they are funny. I've seen him live and wouldn't miss him!

Here's Black Joe Lewis doing Junior Wells' classic Snatch It Back and Hold It. Then the original. It show a progression of music that retains the original, like moving from the Grateful Dead's version to JRAD's.
BTW Hoodoo Man Blues is the one Chicago Blues album if you could only have one.

Spot will set one up for you if you play a lot of that type. Start with the Willie Dixon Chess Box--amazing what he wrote. Muddy Water's Hard Again; Wells' Hoodoo Man Blues, James Cotton 100% Cotton. The Chicago blues personnel on these were almost interchangeable. Look for the Vanhguard anthology, as well as those by Alligator and Blind Pig. Run down to Texas for Freddy King's live album with Have You Ever Loved Woman. Little Walter, Buddy Guy, Otis Spann round it out.
If you play James Taylor's Steamroller Blues I will cut you.
