One of the early pioneers of jazz guitar, moving the instrument from basically a percussion to a lead. The CD is on Verve, a label you can always rely on for top editing and selection. This is from the Jazz Masters series and most songs were recorded 1938 -1942 with a couple in the late 40's early 50's, all in Europe.
His progressive music included double strings on the octave (Wishbone Ash, Dickie/Duane) chromatics (CSN&Y), walking bass lines (Jerry g, Danny Gatton) and inspired a long list of jazz guitar greats, as well as rock guitarists (Richards, Santana, Vaughn). And he had an injured left hand, leaving two good fingers! He set the stage for the transition from swing to bebop.
Robbie Robertson did a tribute song and of course Modern Jazz Quartet's "Django." Some say Dickie wrote "Jessica" as a tribute. Wiki has more on it.
And there was a bar band in Richmond doing a rockabilly/swing thing called "The Jangling Reinhardts." They were good but get extra points for the name!
A gypsy, he survived in Europe during WWII. He died of a stroke in 1953 at age 43.
Those who love jam band guitar work will find his music to be tangled in the roots.

Donna caught me hook line and sinker. The first time I tried it I shut it off as it seemed so similar song to song and there's that squeeze box, but the sound was stuck in my head and I came back. The depth of the lyrics has me learning every song. They seem like a band I will stick with.
Bob's new CD is an enigma to me. I criticize it at every turn but love it. It's so fucking repetitive lyrically and musically but it's catchy as could be. The disc has no text info and I only have a player in my truck so liner notes are out (note to people who produce these) and only know the songs as track 4 no disc text etc but could guess at the names of most. Track 4 no disc text is my favorite on the album as it evokes the most feeling in me.
Hart Valley Drifters is just plain fun. Good driving music, good working music, and I like all 17 no disc text songs (fuckers).
The off the board at our little club bootleg that I'm not at liberty to disclose has disc text and those two shows were very recent so I'm guessing it is pretty easy to do.
