One of my favorites, too. It's interesting how he's changed in the last few years. Initially, the Texas Troubadour type with a self-depreciating stoner schtick. Great stories; lots of homage to Robert Earl Keen. Solo with an acoustic. Then he got serious with Hard Working Americans--if I could have gone last year it would have been half to see them and half to see JRAD. His recent album Eastside Bulldog is a rowdy mix of great tunes and of course great lyrics. I stole my "sig quote" below from his song "Old Timer" One of my favorites, too. Love Hayes Carll. That whole album is killer, although each song is very reminiscent of someone's else's song--KAMG-YOYO being Subterranean Homesick Blues.
Do you know what the title stands for?

Had to look it up a while back when I first heard the song, but yeah I know now. I don't know anything by him really other than that album, but it's a good one.Love Hayes Carll. El VY is a collaboration with the lead singer of The National and...some other guy. I like The National, they were the ones who organized the recent Dead tribute album. They sound nothing like the GD. However, this song is as close to a modern Doors song as I have heard, so many here may enjoy. I just discovered this EL VY album and like it though this is song is an outlier. Anyway, this is what I am digging right now:

I was very lucky to have lived in England 1978-1980 near London. Even though I was a dead, Band, and Brothers fan, the music scene was fantastic. The Clash, the Buzzcocks, X Ray Specs, XTC, Wire, Cure, Damned, Ruts, Sex Pistols, Stiff Little Fingers, and on and on and on. Loud, fun, bruising, sweaty. Pretty awesome! Punk shows were what I cut my teeth on when first seeing lots of live music as a teen. Would have loved to have seen several of the bands you mentioned.

Listened to the JRAD show from 3/11/2017, Brooklyn Bowl last night. I'm now torrenting the FLACs for my iPod!

That's VERY helpful. His live album is that pure troubador (which was the exact word I was thinking before I saw your post) and I haven't started on his later stuff. Good heads up that it changes.

And the changes are good. He's on the move this spring so maybe you can catch a show. Also look around for his song "Beer run."
