David Lemieux first fell in love with the Grateful Dead when he was 14 years old.
"It was authentic," Lemieux says, describing the appeal of the band to him and likely many others. "You could listen to 20 live shows and nothing was the same; everything was different and you can't help but put your fists in the air and freak out."
Since listening to his first Grateful Dead album, Lemieux has become what some may describe as a Deadhead, the official title of the band's devoted fan base, but he is also now an official archivist of the Grateful Dead.
Today, he joins Tom Power in the studio to discuss a new four-hour documentary called Long Strange Trip, that looks at the band's complicated relationship with their loyal, dedicated and somewhat obsessive followers.

Sounds like some old school Floyd (mid 70s). www.npr.org/sections/allsongs/2017/04/21/525040120/hear-roger-waters-new-song-smell-the-roses

Most psychedelic chit I've ever heard. Makes early Pink Floyd sound like country and western. Truly bad ass tunes.

Very bad ass. A lot of variety too. What other "Funk" album do you know that opens with a 10 minute psychedelic instrumental like Maggot Brain?

About a week later, someone stole the whole box of tapes out of my car. Except the Europe '72 tape (probably in the player). It was the only music in my car for a LONG time. Probably until I got my first bootleg Dead show tapes, IIRC.

JRAD 5/6/2017 - Their Saturday night show during Jazzfest, great recording up on archive. 18+ minute greatest story opener, then a Scar / Help / Slipknot! / Fire double decker sandwich and then Gonesville > Not Fade Away make one hell of a Set I. Set II isn't bad either, not quite as awesome as Set I but the whole show is great.

Very strong stuff.

What's cool is my daughter got a turntable for a wedding present so my SIL got his late father's crates of albums; this was in there so I borrowed it. All his albums are in perfect condition and most from record club represses, so I wonder if he didn't replace his old collection at one time. So now the youngsters are going through some classics from the 1970's. It's fun to root through and play "drop the needle."

Here is another with Bonnie Raitt and Lowell George that I really enjoy (and would love to hear on vinyl)
WLIR 92,7 FM Broadcast from Ultrasonic Studios, Hemstead, NY, USA, October 17th 1972
Bonnie Raitt & Lowell George with John Hammond
track 6 is an amazing cover of Can't Find My Way Home
