What did you listen to today?

That Weather Report is so awesome in that it crosses bridges. When I was in college, that was the only jazz people owned. You could play Birdland at a beer bar and people perked up.
Fairly recently I have dropped the needle on Birdland for my children's friends and the scales fell from their eyes. "that's jazz" I told them. Then moved to 'Compared to What" from Swiss Movement, Crusader's "so Far Away" and when I had them where I want them, MJQ's "Bag's Groove."
It's a starter drug for getting the youth on jazz.

I like to look around for older Zawinal. He was something.

Les McCann and Eddie Harris "Swiss Movement" is their most popular album, but as always, there's lots of other great stuff along those lines by them.

Although not as true to jazz as the others mentioned, Dan Fogelberg and Tim Weissberg (jazz flute) did a cool version of Donovan's "First There is a Mountain" from which ABB's Mountain Jam is sourced--sustaining my position that under Duane's auspices, the ABB was a jazz band.

Currently listening to the Drive By Truckers set from Newport Folk Festival, streaming on Tune-in

Watching the stream from Capitol Theatre...Midnight North and Stella Blue's Band with Phil Lesh sitting in on a few songs.

You would think so but I didn't find that to be true. At least at the show I saw, it was more of an excuse for Reed Mathis to get freaky than having anything to do with Beethoven's music. BUT listening to Beethoven's greatest hits is it's own reward.

Hope you get more than we did. For us catching an occasional snippet is not how it was billed. Teasing Beethoven might even be generous. 

I haven't been but I did listen to a few of those shows and I concur, very little Beethoven involved.

I was sort of intrigued by the project, but not so much now.  

Go back to what ELO did with Grieg before it went pop.

Listened to/watched the Dear Jerry show from MPP. It's all good but I sure would like to see Jimmy Cliff again.

I meant to listen to that but spaced. Going there now.
