One article I felt at the time was a little self-congratulatory in tone, citing local hotels that benefited from the storm-stranded and charities who participated:

Haha, it ends with "What's not to love?" Well: where should I start?!
But maybe I reacted with cynicism since I'd just been reading accounts of Lockn vendors, whose sales suffered as a result of one day shortened festivities, plus another where potential customers were stuck waiting to get in for too much of the day. Those vendors' voices resonated with me since I figure it could affect what food availability for 2016 as lots of these peeps might not wish to subject themselves to the same situation. Hot prepared foods relying on generators and ice and power to store perishables... and a way to get resources from point A to B? If I go in 2016 I'm planning to cook my own food as much as purchase any. Lines will be longer if number of vendors is smaller, obvs.

That cosmicvibes piece especially worthwhile to read. Both that Southern Belles vocalist Adrian and also Lockn local organizer Jared Stone live in my neighborhood in Richmond too, but I only happened to run into them [on separate occasions] the week after Lockn' concluded this year. Saw a guy at a neighborhood cookout wearing a T-shirt that read "Interlocken" and went to introduce myself; it was this guy Jared who had brought his family to the cookout. I still had so many questions about the festival this year that I hadn't attended but read a lot about. (I also resisted the urge to ask him if any of those original T shirts were available, I would love to own one!)
Among the different storm damage effects he mentioned was fencing along perimeters designating areas cordoned-off from other areas, it sounded expansive, extensive and only one aspect of many that had to be remedied in such a short time. I backed off from peppering him with too many speculative questions like "How can it be done differently next year?" since boards and Facebook comments were still festering with complaints about organization and preparation. But I will no doubt bend his ear next time I see him, much as I anticipate the music and the company I also anticipate logistics and their need for viable Plans "B, C and D"!

While I always feel badly for food vendors who get whacked when any festival gets weather-whacked, the ones who do it a lot factor that risk in (or insure). And price accordingly. But the indies are the ones I'd rather have there, so let's hope they stick with it.

Getting ready for this year I popped open a box & found my Lockn' Times papers from last year. Friday's show a pic under the caption "Mission In The Rain". Shows the empty grounds in front of the stages with railing. You can see how much room GA has on each side of VIP. And remember VIP had the stage divided in front of them. Looks fair at least from the pic. Then I got in to Saturday & there's that pic of the bird in the tent with the caption "suebbunny This guy stopped by our tent". Always special when nature comes to visit you. Hope he finds you in your new digs. Then I opened Sunday's paper to have a window sticker I bought last year fall out. The Grateful Dead head with the Lockn' logo in the head. I love a surprise like that. More fired up now. Can't wait to be with you all at the farm, some in person & some in my heart for sure.
