Sage advice; I learned to button everything up at Lockn2 and my rig did fine in the evacuation storm. Last year, I saw the lightning Friday night when turning in, tested the wind, and got squared away for that nights' storm. IN the Friday night downpour, a neighbor found that the base of his tent was indeed watertight, b/c his tent filled up like a baby's swimming pool from a leak in the top. For some odd reason I had thrown a sponge mop in the car at the last minute; he was glad I did! Saw others trying to mop out their tents with toilet paper. I also ended up using a lot for my own rig, both puddles on the floor (canvas tarp) and sponging off the ceiling drip-throughs. Ah, the joys of not packing light! Pretty good deal, I think I will buy a tent like the one you have Sneake. Its perfect imo for a couple or single person at a fest.
I just snagged a ps4 for $299 though, another good deal.

There have been some amazing deals on Amazon today. I saw that tent, too, sneake and thought it was too bad I didn't need it...probably a good thing since I spent enough as it was.

As much as I love my old school stuff, it's amazing how good the selection, options and features on tents are now and how relatively inexpensive they are. When I was doing some backpacking in the mid-70's a two man A-shaped tent, 2 poles and a fly, was about $60-$80; domes were just coming out.
Rip-stop nylon fabric made it all possible.

As much as I love my old school stuff, it's amazing how good the selection, options and features on tents are now and how relatively inexpensive they are. When I was doing some backpacking in the mid-70's a two man A-shaped tent, 2 poles and a fly, was about $60-$80; domes were just coming out.
Rip-stop nylon fabric made it all possible.
Backpacking gear is still expensive smosey. Crazy light though, I dont think my 1 1/2 lb tarptent is even considered ultralight anymore.

Shoot for that price you could split one of those with your festy partner and just get a new one each year.
On another note I read the part about removing the rain fly at night to look at the stars. I did that...once. Woke up to a torrential downpour, everything in my tent, including me was soaking wet. Had to break down my camp in the rain and toss everything in my Jeep and drive home 45 minutes completely soaked. Walked in the door and the wife said what in the hell happened to you??
Pro tip: Put your rain fly on your tent and leave it on every time you set it up even if there is a zero percent chance of rain. You can thank me later...

I was thinking for that price, disposable.
Which might not be a bad way to go for a one-shot trip; lots of fly-ins do that, and leave the stuff behind (happy day for us scalvagers!) That is, as long as it all works once, and there is no major weather event to test it.
Nonetheless, and much as I hate Walmart, even though the chairs and tent frame are the first to go, sleeping pads, a dry bag, and pillows may have some life to them and the sleeping bags are as good as the zippers--OK for light duty and warm weather.
And the way it comes bundled, it could be shipped ahead to the friendly corner store.
One thing that makes me sad is to think that this could be a homeless family's set up this winter.

I camp in snow with largely Walmart level gear. Never had a problem. Way more important to make sure you're appropriately layered with gear that breathes.
