As to your questions, they've all been very thoroughly covered if you look around a little. Hope you find what you're looking for!

There is whole discussion about VIP vs GA but I don't know which thread. I would guess it is a 50-50 split. IMO VIP is the better choice if you can afford it. I have done both and already have purchased next year as VIP.
And welcome!!!

Gathering of the Vibes VS. Lockn' - this is the real question. Any fellow Tribers that have been to both and have a few honest comparisons?
I think there are about 5000 more attendees. It seems like the location is quite a bit larger and ample for the crowd. Plenty of room, yes?
Wondering about security (like...........ahem.......are they dicks?).
Always a big question! Plenty of camping space like car, canopy, tent? The website says you can set up a canopy NEXT to your car and tent without need an extra camping pass. I am not really able to visualize that. Anyone have a picture of their VIP camping space?
It also seems like a mixed crowd. I don't drink (Wharf Rat) and I don't mind folks who do or being around it BUT that college drunk, falling down, puking thing I can't stomach for 4 days. The occasional DMB show is about the only place I can tolerate it and even that hasn't happened for me in years.
I know I could probably find threads for subjects but I'm reaching out for help as we are trying to decide on either Lockn' or possibly a few smaller Fests in 2016 instead - like Creek, Jerry Jam, Frendly. It's a lot of research and we will need to make a decision quickly because we both need to get vacation time off put in. Thanks for any help, advice, suggestions and mostly thanks for welcoming me!
Peace...............

** I have not done both but I do SVIP at Lockn' & love it. Lockn' seems to have a great crowd. **
I think there are about 5000 more attendees. It seems like the location is quite a bit larger and ample for the crowd. Plenty of room, yes?
** Plenty of room to move about. Now if you want in the middle of the crowd it's normal. Around the out side & around the vendors no complaints at all. **
Wondering about security (like...........ahem.......are they dicks?).
** Never had any issues with security. If you don't do any thing stupid you don't even notice them. **
Always a big question! Plenty of camping space like car, canopy, tent? The website says you can set up a canopy NEXT to your car and tent without need an extra camping pass. I am not really able to visualize that. Anyone have a picture of their VIP camping space?
** Being SVIP I had more room this year than the first year I went, 2014. I walked thru VIP & it seemed they had good space. **
** You will always have your college drunks but I see very little of it at Lockn' With the kind of music they bring I think they get a more mature crowd. The people I have been around seem to know how to control their good times. We here for the music & each other. **

✌ We hope you chose Lockn'. We have a family reunion (meet up) each year & hope you become part of the family.

CT weather in July has mostly been spectacular except for sweaty Vibes in....2012? Well Over 100 for 3 (?) straight days ~ brutal!
Thanks for the input.

Most important to me are the people and the music. Both venues were just great in those respects. I actually ran into some people from GOTVibes at LOCKN. I have my ticket for LOCKN already with no clear idea of how I'm going! This forum is just super for basic info and ride share . These folks feel like friends , a bunch of jokers, wise crackers, music heads and I can't wait for next years' Meet Up ! I'm going to try to bring some Heady Topper to insure my invitation..........
Almost forgot to mention that you'll need to hold onto your hat when you experience the 'interlocking ' music! It's almost too much and I can't wait to do it again!

It looks like the drive might not be as big a factor on the old pro/con list. We are in Vermont so it more than doubles the drive for us.

I'm not persnickety and have managed plenty in the wilderness and third world (and third world wilderness). As a male, I can put up with, or work around, bathroom issues easier. But as an old dog, those comforts are what I pay for, more than the music viewing perks. Advice: prepare to be flexible and lower your expectations.
Also in year two there were discounted beer prices and more choices; not last year for either.
But there were other things I liked about VIP, discussed plenty of times elsewhere.
So like any consumer purchase, look closely at the details that matter to you, and know that not everything is as promised.
Nonetheless, the last 2 times at Lockn were about the most fun thing I've done in decades.

This old gal also enjoys these comforts and yes, always buyer beware. I like to research which is why I joined this board a day after I got the Vibes announcement!

This year they are going to have sunshine lined umbrellas with adjustable temp settings for everyone. Shoulder rides are a thing of the past because now they have rainbow farting unicorn Pegasus to transport VIP. And, everyone will be happy, except Phil because he's still a dick! (~);}

Rain is rain. I don't like it at a fest, or camping, no matter what you wear or sit on. And I am an outdoorsman who does lots of recreation outdoors in all kinds of weather--even rain. I think that if we all (or even I) moved in to Lockn Thursday it would have been an absolute disaster and buzzkill that even Friday couldn't fix--and that's even if we hadn't had the truly bizarre microburst Wednesday. Perhaps the microburst was a blessing in disguise b/c Thursday as it was would have been completely unmanageable by the staff and 90% of the attendees (it's like driving on the snow--it really doesn't matter if you are good at it if you are surrounded by those who aren't).
But no fest in normal climes can promise no rain. You can have Burning Man WRTT.
I would not like a cover and would rather have open air and risk.
Other amenities were abysmally deficient regardless of weather, generally, or the microburst/rain, specifically; that's another conversation.
