Has anyone ever made fingertip soup before? I made some the other night. I thought about calling it fingernail soup but that sounds like I just clipped my fingernails into the soup. Gross and lame at the same time. No, I sliced the tip of my finger off, with a portion of the nail, while chopping veg to go into the soup. Actually, it was chopping cilantro to be used as garnish on, what up to that point was a veggie tortilla soup. So it was retrievable. I thought about calling it finger soup but that sounds like I just stuck my finger in it which of course I did. Or like I put a whole severed finger in it but that would be extreme. Although I did say to Pam “I just cut my finger off again.” She knew what I was talking about and only said “Ok, I’ll get the Band-Aids.”

that's a fine blade. I like those, but being the anachronism that I am, I also gravitate toward some knives that are 50+ years old.

Then in 25-30 years you will have a real appreciation for it. I've had it for at least 20 years. My Joyce Chen 8" Chinese Cleaver has to be 35 years old. They are inexpensive now at under $20 but then they were quality. It is still a good knife. Then I have some older knives from our parents but they were never very good quality.

A couple of my dad's large knives were good quality and I think of him when I use them. Ones they had that weren't good quality, my sister has them and she's happy; I'm happy.

One of the things I like about using old tools (incl cooking implements and guns) is thinking about the hands and the people who used them the same way decades or even a century or more ago. My grandfather's initials are carved in the pitchfork that I use--at the same house where he used it.

I also have all of my dads tools. I can tear up over a file sometimes.
