1. Dave Frey knows your name - that's awesome. Quality work.
2. I remain skeptical that they can effectively get all (or at least the majority) of us in and parked by the time the music starts.
Let's assume they have 7,000 cars to process between car camping and tent only (I think this is a pretty conservative estimate). If they start at 9:00 and have until 4:00 (when the music starts), that's 7 hours. This would require them to process cars at a rate of 1,000 per hour. That breaks down to 16.6 cars per minute. I'm not trying to be a pessimist, I just don't see them moving that fast.
in addition to being conservative, what's the point in getting through the gates at 4? i'd be rather upset if i didn't get in by 2 at the VERY latest. i need time to setup camp, cause i sure as hell dont wanna do it at 1am

If you cook breakfast in the holding lot you will make money. This is fact. Unless the man tries to shake you down.

Pete and I are simply trying to book a show we'd want to go to ourselves and feel lucky that others share our taste(s).
It's our first year so it's really important that people keep it legal because of the oversight
So out of respect for these awesome dudes putting on this amazing show, and in hopes that we will be starting a tradition tomorrow that will last many years, know your limits. Have a good time but let's respect the locals and each other. Don't go looking for any trouble. Just have a blast and keep it chill.

So what is the plan this year? I am think about being there at 9a but not sure this is the best strategy......Still awaiting word from LOCKN about arrival info...
BUT I am sure it will be much better this year.....(fingers crossed) Not missing Umphrey's!! I would even pay $100 for guaranteed entry before the first strum from stage.

Though no traffic plans have been approved at this time, Frey said the new property will allow people to come off U.S. 29 onto Diggs Mountain Road, which connects Arrington and Oak Ridge roads, to create an easier traffic flow.
“There’s still work to do, and we want to prevent backups and obstructions to traffic,” Nelson County Administrator Steve Carter said Friday evening.
“There’s going to be some traffic on Thursday, yes, but after that, things should be pretty normal,” Frey said.
The event drew an estimated 25,000 people last year. Though ticket sales for this year have not been re-leased, Frey said he anticipates a 30 percent increase in attendance. Last week, he said he didn’t expect ticket sales to double due to a Virginia Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control ruling in July that re-voked the concessions license for Best Beverage Catering, the festival’s food and beverage concessionaire.
Best Beverage has through the end of August to file an appeal, and it is allowed to serve alcohol unless the revocation is upheld after an appeal hearing or an appeal is not filed by the deadline. It is unlikely that a hearing would occur before this year’s festival takes place, ABC spokeswoman Rebecca Gettings has said.
“We’ve had a pretty sharp decline in sales since the news that the ABC has revoked our license,” Frey said. “It’s been hard to message that our event is going to be OK.”
This year, all beer sales will be in a separate section of the site, dubbed “Brewer’s Village,” and will create more space for food and beverage purveyors, said Ben Thompson, director of food and beverage services for the festival. Last year, food and beverages were located in the same area.
“This is a special area [where] we have changed the financial model to be more accommodating to local businesses,” Thompson said. “And each of these vendors will be local businesses that showcase local prod-uct.”
Other draws include a food stage that will showcase food, beer and sustainable living, with “surprise art-ist” appearances in the area, Thompson said.
In addition, he said, the sports lounge will be enlarged and feature eight 60-inch plasma TV screens play-ing all of the important football games of the weekend.
The Charlottesville Mountain Bike Club plans to clear and prepare trails on the property for guided bike tours, organizers. The club also plans to offer specialized bikes for attendees to test-ride on the trails. Red Bull also plans to have more biking pro-athletes leading guided bike rides. An on-site “wheel house” to fix and rent out bikes is planned.
John Washburn, owner of Nellysville-based Bold Rock cidery, said he appreciates Lockn’ organizers reaching out to local businesses to be a part of the festival.
“They’re really spreading the love and embracing the county in way everyone should be very thrilled about,” he said.

That's kind of their own fault. How hard is it to put something like this on their web and Facebook pages?

“Buying this property is a game-changer for safety, it’s a game-changer for the traffic plan and it’s a game-changer for how we do things logistically,” he said. “It’s so different. We had to completely tear up last year’s plan and start all over. So it’s like we had year one, and we’re having year one again.”
