For those that have attended Lockn' in the past, are there bands you are now a fan of after seeing them at Lockn'? Where you went into their set knowing nothing about them and ended up digging them to the point that you have bought their CDs and/or seen them live since? I don't just mean you found their set agreeable, because I think with the exception of Wilco (no offense Wilco fans) I have found enjoyable elements in just about every set I've seen at Lockn'. I'm talking about making a proactive decision to hear them again.
For me there are two in particular. The first was Steve Earle at Lockn' 2015. I had heard an acquaintance talk him up a bit but I had never listened to him and honestly wasn't that fired up to see him at Lockn'. But I ended up enjoying him enough to pick up a few recordings which, while not in steady rotation, do receive some playing time now and then.
The other is the Wood Brothers from 2014. I had been listening to Medeski, Martin & Wood for years but never checked out the Wood Brothers. They really impressed me and I have since picked up just about every album of theirs. I was really looking forward to seeing them again at Wanee this year, but in the one scheduling conflict that affected me that weekend, the Wood Brothers were on at the same time as Umphrey's and I had to go with Umphrey's.
I guess the reason there aren't more on my list is that I was already a fan of the majority of acts I have seen at Lockn.'
