Look AV Club, I know you skew way younger than me and hate jam bands (with the exception of the Dead themselves, since you have to be a big geek to really get into them) but seriously: a fest founded by Jay-Z instead of Peach for Pennsylvania? GWAR-BQ for VA, not Lockn? And poor Tennessee must be devoid of culture for 'Roo to still make the list. Sheesh!

Certainly not a list of "best" fests. More like a list of "other" fests you may not have heard of.

But typical AV Club to eschew what is popular, as if popular can't be good. They do a lot of sitting around being impressed with themselves.

They always do. The guys that write the reviews think they are anointed to state opinion as fact. But I still read them.

However, like most AV articles, the comments make it all worthwhile. The ones here about the fests--and better, about the states and the "attractions" like the potato museum and two competing barb wire museums--are worth it--skip the article and go right to them.

"If you are ever in Kansas and are curious about barb wire...." I can assure you, neither of those events will ever happen

Of course B'roo is the choice for TN. There really isn't any question. That is unless you are letting your personal music opinions sway your choices. Bonnaroo is not the fest for me and hasn't been for a decade but that doesn't mean it isn't a world class music festival destination. The sheer scope and diversity put it in a league of it's own. Whoever your favorite band is chances are they have played B'roo or they desperately want to.

I've done my share of Roo's & had a great time. It does change but they sure know what they are doing. You could spend a very busy weekend there & never see a band. And I'd say a lot of upstart festivals after that took a good long look at them.
