Live Nation will revive its special $20 “Kickoff to Summer” ticket promotion to signal the start of the summer music season. As Billboard details, a slew of artists (all listed below) will take part in this promotion that will offer as many as 1,000 $20 tickets per show, with the number of tickers offered varying depending on capacity. That’s pretty similar to the list of shows available in Charlotte. Tedeshi Trucks Band is on there, but I already bought those via Groupon a few months ago. I thought I was getting a good deal paying $28 each, but it turns out I should have held out for this.

Agreed, pretty weak offering here. Plus there's a good chance that all of these bands, with the exception of Toby Keith, will cancel anyway over HB2.

I think that's the strategy--since the show isn't going to come close to selling out, why not get some more bodies in the cheap seats (lawn) to buy beer and merch? It's not likely to affect the chair sales much.

For bands that might sell (almost) out, the cheapies are a good-will gesture, too. A good way to build a fan base to facilitate some whole-family or other group attendance.

I must admit, I love buying cheap lawn tickets to 80’s and 90’s bands that come around in the summer. There are a couple on here I would definitely have bought except I have other plans and can’t go, such as Journey. It’s just a fun night out, lots of people watching, and if your view isn’t great or the sound isn’t perfect, it’s not the worst thing in the world, because you’re just there to have a good time.

I do have tickets to the Heart/Joan Jett/Cheap Trick show in September. They were $10 on Groupon, and a bunch of my friends are going. And I’m also going to Counting Crows, but for that show I paid full price during the pre-sale because I wanted good seats (7th row). They are one of my favorite bands, so I wouldn’t want to be on the lawn for them.
