Welcome to the Lockn' Forum - The home of the original Lockn' Music Festival family!
Given last years Lockn lineup versus this one, there might just be the same size crowd at Lockn this year. There! We've covered all the bases (I admit my potential scenario is the least likely). Please note: This forum is in no way officially associated with Lockn' Festival or its promoters.
Too Many Festivals?

Are we in a festival bubble? There is a finite supply of headliners and customers.
I mention this because Roo vendors got a package from management a few weeks ago projecting a crowd of under 50k. In the past it was 80k plus.
Given last years Lockn lineup versus this one, there might just be a smaller crowd at Lockn this year. Good for attendees, bad for future ticket prices.

Not bashing non-essential amenities...just find the economics and scale of it all interesting. Different Strokes for Different Folks in terms of why they do/don't go to one festival over another. I do wonder if there is a pressure to "keep up with the Joneses" that will start squeezing medium-sized and regional festivals outside the costs of bringing in the actual musicians, thereby thinning the herd. As far as providing essential amenities, that has been a really positive thing to watch as more people can enjoy the experience regardless of age/disability/Trilesalectinophobia, etc.
With all that said...I am sure you will find me wondering through Garcia's Forest visual/audio playland chomping on my organic-grass-fed-local-tofu-burger (yes, they feed the beans organic grass), with an $8 micro-brew in tow. Yum.

But there are some who go and enjoy lazing around the campsite instead of seeing the music--not me--and others who go "to party" and the music may as well not even be there. Takes all kinds--as long as they are buying!
But I can't really say b/c I have gone to Lockn purely for the music and great line-ups. Perhaps if I were at another fest like 'roo where few bands interest me, I might hang back some.
I think they like to set up a "charity row" to try to soften the business side of the business, too.

A friend of mine volunteers to drive the van for that; it's sponsored by his mothers' church up top the hill, and the proceeds from the modest charge supports their mission work. I certainly don't knock the outside activities, or on-site extras; just saying they aren't on my list.

Maybe the thing that gives the most hope for their longevity is the sub-name of this Board..."Oak Ridge Farm". Some of my favorite festivals that disappeared (Berkfest, Gathering on the Mountain, Smilefest, Langarado, All Good - hopefully not for good) all seemed to be scrambling for locations every couple years. Not sure how many festivals own their land outside 'Roo and Lockn'. Was thrilled to hear Lockn' bought the farm before 2014.

Shapiro used to work with the company (and one guy in particular) who was on the ground floor to develop 'roo and some of the other major early festivals, and he still looks up to that guy and his business acumen. So you may well have hit on a common thread that gives some fests the stability to go long haul--a sense of permanence.
That guy told me that the important thing they are selling is the total experience (here, total festival experience) not just tickets at the door and who cares what happens later (this in response to saying, jokingly, why do you care if it rains if you've sold the tickets?). Again, the focus on the long term and what is remembered after the event is what keeps them going. I think you'd probably find a lack of that commitment in the short-lived ventures, as well as an inability to adapt to change.
