Don't knock till you've tried it. I mean I've had better buzzes but talk about intense colors. Okay, so mostly just blinding white color but really intense.

And Governor's Ball. Not something on my radar, but still cancelled.

And Levitation, which was canceled like the day before. Probably my biggest fear is driving across half of the us to locn' and the same thing to happen. Hell people are still waiting on refunds from that and the bands weren't too pleased either.

You can always get insurance.

We saw the birth of an insurance one time. 20 years or so ago a bunch of us went to Myrtle Beach for a golf/cards/drinking/cigars/telling lies weekend. It snowed. I saw a snowman on the beach. After that they started selling Myrtle Beach Golf Vacation Snow Insurance. True story.

I met two guys that were standing on the hotel balcony looking forlorn. Struck up a conversation as I am want to do and it turns out they were Canadians. They had left their homes in Montreal in a snowstorm and tandem drove nonstop to Myrtle Beach. It had snowed every foot of the way. They were so bummed.

Roo got the lightning delay before Pearl Jam over the weekend.

Had a few friends there. They took shelter in their cars and took everything down that could blow away. We got the storm next, we live about 3 hours east. Scary storm to drive through. 

That was a joke...the lightning was a long way off and it barely sprinkled. They "evacuated" us all back to our campsites and with the distances involved people were hardly back to their campsites before they gave the all clear, and then back we trudged...all the sets were in their entirely-they just started later. Kinda like Lock'n the year before last.

The lightning storms, large crowds and structures full of electrical devices are nothing to fool around with. Usually, lightning hits about 10 miles from the visible storm. The storms can move 35 mph (or more, or less) and this cover a lot of ground in no time.

In addition to the real danger, in today's litigious society, the promoters won't take chances, even though many in the crowd, including me, would. Expect more of these.

If you can hear the thunder you are close enough to the storm to be struck by lightning, doesn't matter if the skies above you are clear and blue. We take several multi-day canoe trips each year and have learned that when we hear thunder we start looking for shelter and then watch to see which way the storm is heading. I've spent more than one late summer afternoon on a river bank with trees around me falling after they have been struck by lightning. Couple of times I wasn't sure that we were going to make it. Good time to crack a beer and ride the storm out (hopefully).
