Wondering if this festival is family friendly? My kids have been to many shows....Dead and Phish, but not a music festival. Wondering if this is the right festival to try. I know there will be family camping which is cool, but wondering if there will be other things for them to do....thought I saw there is a place for them to swim, is this right?

No swimming at the fest. There is a shuttle to take you away from the fest but I don't know anyone that has done that. I think smosey knows the folks or someone knows something or something.
By the way get ready to here arguments, both informed and not so much, on both sides of the should I take my kids question.

Welcome to the board and happy birthday!!! Whatever you do, please don't feed the animals...Wondering if this festival is family friendly? there are group bike rides and frisbee golf. allegedly but I've never seen them. i think Lockn is pretty light on other things to do compared to some other festivals such as Floydfest, but I am basing that on what I read as I don't have a lot of festival experience beyond lockn anf im there for the music.

hi we are taking our 7 and 11 year old. I listened to the live facebook q and a a while ago. He said they were planning a kid area that would be new for this year. He said it would have activities for kids.

Also kids under 12 are free, so that makes it kid friendly on the wallet..

I've not seen organized activities but I do see kids there. Sometimes you see families that go on the hill where you can see & hear the music & kids running around with other kids they met. Just have to keep watch but seams very nice there.

Hi! I know this is older but just wanted to chime in. My now 7 and 1 year olds have been twice, this year will be their 3rd. Never camped in family camping, although they do have one. Never had a problem with neighbors or anyone being disrespectful. We know what to expect and redirect their attention if something not for them to see happens. If the Kids Area is true then it's definitely upped the kid friendly stance, but I wouldn't say it was ever family unfriendly.
They've had a blast every year. The heat has gotten to my oldest once before, so prepare well for the possibility of that. We couldn't take them back to concert field that day until way late in the evening but we made it work. If you have specific questions PM me

This will be our 2nd year with my now 9 year old.
As far as activities. Last year nothing specific for kids. We had lots of balloons and coloring books etc... For down time. The Lockn web site does say a shaded family/kids area this year inside the concert field area
Our daughter has been going to shows since birth. If you as a parent know what to expect. I think you will be fine. Just be prepared they will "see and hear things"

Not to be an alarmist but just so you parents can be prepared, the lay-out, especially after dark, is very confusing and unlit. There are no people, after dark, such as security, that can help a lost person. None. No one to ask directions; no one able to call to administration. And the crowds moving can be thick in the dark.
So have your children be aware of landmarks and also to go to one and stay there until you meet them there. Have them carry a flashlight, best a colored flasher of some kind, as well as your contact info. If they have cell phones, be sure the info is NOT carried with or in the phone. And take a picture of your children each day in your phone.
I doubt anyone would get hurt there but they can get plenty scared. My 18 year old niece got lost for 3 hours the first night of L2 trying to find the RV from the stage area, and I can easily see how.
