Gate Times

We're coming from Southern Illinois which is about a 10 hour drive. Does anyone know what day and when the gates open? Or maybe a prediction of when. I apologize if this question has been asked before, we're doing our planning and it would help to know. I searched and didn't find much.
Btw, I look forward to seeing all of you in less than 30 days!!!!!

Hubs and I plan on getting in line about 4ish. He wants to queue much earlier, but I think it's unnecessary.
But just curious, is the queue manned at that hour? Staff present to halt us, etc. Are we just lined up on a road or do they stick us in a field or something?
Could one of the Lumnis possibly point out the area we would queue on Google Earth? Pretty pretty please?
I only ask as I'm the Queen of Queuing In The Wrong Line or Wrong Area.
At MSG this past NYE I stood in a long line that didn't move while the other lines flew past me. Turned out it was the line for posters. It wasn't the first time I made that mistake.

I'm coming down from Cleveland area and have to work on Wednesday, so I was thinking about my options.... here's the details, logistics, ramblings etc:
It's about an 8 hour drive according to the internets.
Depending on how early/late I get out of work, I would say I'm home/packed by 4pm. If I can make it earlier I will. My options include (but aren't limited to)
1) Hit the road immediately! Be in "line" and ready to go at midnight or so.... (sleep in car while waiting to get in???)
2) Go home and sleep if I can, hit the road at midnight or 1 and be in line Thursday at 9am or so.
3) Hit the road immediately after work and hit up a hotel 45 min. away or so, and leave in morning to get in line 9am or so
What's my best option you think?

We booked a dumpy $50 room in Charlottesville. We will roll into town about 8:00 Wednesday night, catch a shower and some Z's, and get up at 4:00 am to head to get in line. I think that's adequate, as we're going to be lining up at the VIP/RV entrance and I don't anticipate the wait being as long as GA camping.
