First, the bad:
I was one of those VIP who arrived Wednesday night and was in the corral for a few hours Thursday morning. It was a mess, and upsetting, but we did get to the campsite by 11:30. I guess I was luckier than some, but not as lucky as others.
The air conditioned bathrooms. Most of the weekend the air wasn't working, and the conditions got pretty gross at times.
The showers. First, there weren't enough for the VIP. Second, half of them didn't work well at all, and drain well at all. I found that showering at night was best.
Non VIP people were using the bathrooms and showers. As the weekend went on, they had security there, plus the cleanliness improved in the bathrooms.
Our VIP package did not include the water bottles.
Now, the good:
The music. Bottom line, this was what it was all about. This couldn't have been any better.
The people. A lot of very cool people everywhere.
The vendors. Lot's of nice stuff. Clothing, posters, beer, food. I wish I had more money to spend.
On Thursday, the VIP tent beers cost $8. On Friday, they lowered them to $3. It remained that price for the rest of the weekend. (although they switched to smaller cups on Sunday)
We were given our missing water bottles...and the rest of the VIP goodie bag all over again.
The VIP food. The BBQ Thursday was great. The late night buffets were good too.
Overall, I had a great time. One of the best of my life. My first festival. I don't know if I'd do it again...this was more of a once in a lifetime trip. It was definitely worth every penny, and the negatives weren't bad enough that I have any lingering bad feelings. You get 25,000 people in one area for days on end, things will get messy. Bottom line...it was about the music. And that delivered many times over.
