Hi guys! What podcasts do you listen to? A bunch of my favorites are going on hiatus for the rest of the year and I need some new ones to listen to. I'd love to explore anything music history related as well and am not finding anything.

My favorites:

1: Various podcasts that discuss my favorite shows, TWD, GoT, House of Cards, etc (Bald Move, Podcastica produced mainly).
2: This American Life
3: Embedded (new and awesome!)
4: You Must Remember This (details Hollywood's "golden age", just finished a series on Joan Crawford)
5: Serial
6: Undisclosed
7: WTF
8: Nerdist
9: The History Chicks
10: Criminal
11: Snap Judgement
12: Lore

Also, my husband loves Jimmy Pardo and is dragging me to one of his comedy shows in CHI. I don't really like him. And for some BIZARRE reason he listens to Joe Rogan.

So, looks like my tastes in podcasts are pretty different from yours, as many of them are sports, a few law, a few social issues (i.e. somewhat political)

Just to mention a few that I think you might like:

Gastropod (food)
Inquiring Minds (sort of sciency)
Pro-publica
This week in drugs

That's probably it for any overlap. I am constantly adding new ones, listening to a few episodes, deleting. I have a bunch of political podcasts, but I foresee a major shake-up after November, as I'd like to get rid of most of them and add some more science/world affairs reporting ones.

There's only one podcast I listen to any more: www.noagendashow.com

They do 2 shows a week 2-3 hours each. That's actually more podcast listening time than I have. But their show is wildly entertaining and provides a very different perspective on world news.

Nobody has mentioned WTF with Marc Maron? WTF? Really I thoroughly enjoy his show. Even when he is interviewing people I am totally clueless about.

I really only listen to wtf on a regular basis but enjoy the others as well.

I consume a fair amount of podcasts. some of them are sailing specific:

-NPR Fresh Air
-This American Life
-RadioLab
-The Gist
-WTF
-On the wind (sailing)
-Ocean sailing
-In our Time (BBC. Really good synopsis of every topic in the history of mankind in an hour by 3 experts, always at least one female expert.)
-Just downloaded the New Yorker podcast, no opinion as of yet
-Serial, but those were done some time ago.

I have a love/hate relationship with Maron. I love that he goes there with people, asking about daddy issues and such and breaks down walls. But I hate the self-depricating crap and the interrupting and the competitiveness that comes out of him. And you can tell when he's checked out of an interview. He did one with Aaron Freeman (Gene Ween) where he really was totally bored and not asking the right questions and as a Ween fan it was frustrating. His recent interview with Roseanne was awesome though, but I think that has more to do with her (being a complete effing genius) than anything.

Married to a very strong woman but calling myself a feminist might be pushing it. Certainly very liberal. I just think it is a cool fact I remembered them mentioning once.

It was... interesting. A very Southern gothic-type tale, in the sense that... Well, I don't want to give too much away. It starts out very strong, and is engaging. I would recommend you download it. I listened to it all within 24 hours, which I haven't done since serial.

I would also recommend Crimetown if you haven't listened to it yet, if you're into Sopranos type storytelling. That's my new favorite. As well as the Daily, a quick 20 min highlight of the biggest stories in our nation that the NYT puts out. Very liberal coverage, but it surprises you sometimes (especially in a story they did last week about coal mining.)

I am 7/9 on ShitTown. Very good. Maybe not as good as Serial, but having lived in the South my whole life, it summarizes the experience perfectly. Also, part of my job is to listen to listen to two different sides of a story and try to find a shared reality. This story shows how ridiculously difficult that can be.

Okay, well, now this is relevant. In a recent 'cast, my boys get to interview Browen Lollar, lead guitarist for St.Paul & the Broken Bones, and formerly of the first incarnation of Isbell's 400 Unit. Don't let the fact that his brother is one of the co-hosts give you the impression that they can't get good on their own; Joel Murray and Joe Pera are just a couple examples of guests they've had on the show. Sorry to be a shill for my buddy, but it's actually a pretty professional operation nowadays.
