Mid range cooler

We musta got a deal on ours. I know we didn't pay the $94 they're going for on wally dot com.

This is the one we use. The colors have changed. That's actually not that terrible of an idea.

built-in cooler wheels aren't really good for off-road or long hauls, especially when you consider they are just mounted into plastic.

I recall good discussion and comparison of brands in the check list thread; the Coleman extreme got good ratings and is not too terribly expensive. I have one and think it's better than other mid-range coolers. The weak spot for most is the lack of insulation in the top IMO.

Xcellent advice. We have one and love it.

I like my Xtreme cooler.... Packed it Wednesday afternoon before driving down (frozen bottled watter and food) still had some mostly frozen bottle monday morning for the ride home.

Got one, plastic latches all broke with moderate use and now it is completely useless without jury-rigging the lid. The little entry lid seems like a smart idea. Doesn't seal well and also broke. Deterring me from getting an Igloo anytime in the near future.  


We have a 100 quart Coleman Xtreme on wheels as well. It has dutifully served me for 8 years before the side wall started to pull away from the liner. Now makes a lovely spent-grain vessel for post-brew clean up. Dropping some serious dough on an Orca this winter after spending an estimated $200 of dollars on ice refills this summer camping/festivaling, but if I wasn't we'd go back to the 100 quart Coleman as a mid-range. 

And since it has not been mentioned...why not truly splurge?

Forget bringing a bike to Lockn' - you can zip around at 13 miles per hour enjoying your cold beverage! I'd add a light and bell to give people fair warning before you run them down. You would want to check Virginia law regarding what forms of transporting one's self may be eligible for DUI consideration.   

I think Igloo is not what it used to be, especially at the lower end. But what products are? Thus you can often get the better "old" quality, and cheap, at yard sales (also whole-house estate sales--no one wants to move them). You might get one of the old steel ones that way.

We had races around the brewery on those. What could go wrong?
