Welcome to the Lockn' Forum - The home of the original Lockn' Music Festival family!
Jeff, I don't mean that JRAD is half count; I mean late shows are. What I mean is that in the promotion and for ticket sales, the market will mainly look at the headliners on the main stage; if everyone wanted to go to late night shows, they'd be on the big stage. Indeed, for people who don't like late night, it's a detraction when their favorite band is late--I get it that the opposite is true for those who like late night, but I sense they are not in the majority--we're talking sales and markets here, not how people ought to act. From what I hear, musically, JRAD needs to be headlining, and I hope I can see them sometime. Likewise, I'm not considering whether MMJ is good or bad. I don't see that band having the draw for the past three Lockn crowds (under 25 or over 45) that you can get from an oldie (Young, Allman Bros) or a biggie (WSP, Dead acts such as Co or Furthur, SCI). I could be wrong. What size venue do they sell out? Jeff, I don't mean that JRAD is half count; I mean late shows are. But more than just a "GD" brand, they also established an old guys brand--Neil Young, Willie Nelson, Tom Petty, Jorma, Mad Dogs, JA, Winwood, Plant, Del, Feat, Santana, Cliff, Taj Mahal just off the top of my head.
Late night and early shows count as half a point, especially at Lockn with one stage. That's the vortex.
Instead, Ween and MMJ as the second tier?
And if you are suggesting that MMJ is second tier you really need to... I'm not sure but you really need to do something.

I think they tend to sell out places they play, but don't play like arenas or full-size amphs for the most part. They played Red Hat here in Raleigh and not Walnut Creek for instance, but it was pretty full.

BTW: did you guys know about this? The audio has been freely available for some time, but now video: www.jambase.com/article/new-youtube-three-nights-phil-lesh-phriends-1999
I didn't embed, because I couldn't even find them without the Jambase link, so I doubt they're even embeddable.

This past summer I took a trip out West with my wife and three kids. While we were in Utah a show was announced at Terrapin scheduled for the night we were due to arrive in San Francisco. We bought a pair of tickets and my oldest son and I went to the show. I had been wanting to go to Terrapin since it opened a few years back but figured it would never happen. They played a show from 1991 and while I wasn't at this particular show I saw a few from that run at the Garden. Really brought me back. Once in a lifetime trip to Terrapin during a once in a lifetime trip with the family. Here's a link to the audio. Check out the Jack Straw!

And by the way...my hats off to mccjeff for turning me on to those guys. Holy Sheet Batman! Just play the live version of A Simple Vision, and you'll be HOOKED! What an amazing tune. I can't play it loud enough!!
They "FIT" as far as I'm concerned. Their horn section tears it up. I fell in love with these guys. Turn it UP!

Actually I'm going to Hawaii to see Phil. We are 6 hours north of TXR (hippie travel time) and that means 12 hours on the road at best so yes it is a long way to go. We do it occasionally but there are so many shows so much closer. That said, TXR is a pilgrimage every head should make at least once.

Ha I'd be fine if Phil is there if they gave him like a 3 pm time slot.

For L'15, lumni tickets were sold September 23rd - October 21st. I think announcements started in November (25th was the String Cheese/Doobie, Panic, TTB and other artist Announcements) and tickets went on sale to general public on December 1st. They did a trickle after that November 25th announcement ahead of "holiday ticket specials", if I recall correctly - with a substantial final update in March. Things were pretty fixed in June.
For L'16 the lunmi tickets were October 9th to November 10th (they extended it by two weeks after initial announcement). We didn't get an announcement until February 17th, I think.
That's me and my email history's recollection.
I am in the camp that the announcement pattern from last year was clearly connected to Phish. Hoping we go back to a trickle announcement pattern this year as well!
