Looks like it it going to turn to the east before inflicting serious damage to the NC Piedmont. The SE NC coast could still get walloped. Hope Charleston survives. I have Phish tix for next weekend.
My main concern is Haiti. They aren't there now but part of our Lockn crew does work in Haiti building schools and birthing centers and training midwives. The area of the country that they have been working in is up in the mountains and is only accessible by driving hours or walking days up a creek bed. 40" of rain and creek beds are a bad combination.

Be safe Andie! My sister-in-law and her husband live in Jacksonville on the river and decided to head inland. Yes, please let us know when the storm has passed and you are safe. Here in Raleigh it is looking like 3-4" of rain over the weekend and max wind gusts of 50 mph. It rapidly escalates as you head SE from here.
Remember--- DO NOT try and cross flooded creeks and streams. It doesn't have to be enough water to float your car. It only needs to be just enough force to break traction.

I don't know where Andie Bee is but I got good reports from Jupiter Fla that the storm passed without catastrophic effects; power and water still on.

Looks like its the biggest hurricane in the world right now. Of course, Unalaska Island is pretty damn close and no news outlet seems to be covering them.

Power is out. Worst is probably past. Guessing 4"+ of rain and gusts up to maybe 60 mph. Big oak down in neighbors back yard but luckily fell away from house. Don't know about claims of media hype. This felt pretty darn hurricaney to me.

Still no power and it was over 6" of rain. Wind is still honking with gusts up to 45 to continue into tomorrow. Lots of flooding. Gets worse the farther south and east that you go from here.

I got 9" rain with 4 in about an hour, on top of high tide with NE build-up, so the roads flooded, yet the morons kept driving small cars into the briny deeps. Power went out around 8 last night due to a tree down, while cooking and listening to the Big Band radio show, so hauled out the transistor radio, sparked the gas stove and proceeded on for a candlelight dinner with my sweetie.
This morning found the basement flooded about 2' so hauled out the generator and pumped it out. Since it does this, most everything I keep there is waterproof; was greeted by a dozen duck decoys swimming around merrily.
We may be without power 3 days. Tide's coming in so we'll have some more minor flooding. But gusty winds and saturated ground and trees still holding leaves means we'll have more drop over the next few days.
Some people are angry at the surprise because they were told Matthew wasn't going to "hit." They focus on the little red symbol as if that is the storm--the storm is a 300 mile system! Yhey need to d oaway with that symbol and the dotted line path. What we got and the consequences are exactly what was expected, to those who pay attention.

That was crazy! I couldn't believe they were playing, but they somehow got through it. I don't know how they were able to hold onto the ball at all.Still managed to squeeze the nc state game in. What a mess.

I know Mathew was a pain I the ass for many, but I got to sail yesterday in the remnants. Sustained 15-20 with gusts touching 40. Great practice beating upwind on the lake and safer than Pamlico sound. It was awesome! Only sad part was my thirteen year old first mate has finally reaches the age where he chose to hang with his friends instead of going sailing with me😓

No, because that little symbol and dotted line informed me, and everyone else with a modicum of good sense, what to expect. It wouldn't help or hinder the idiots you are talking about. They were told repeatedly what to expect and chose to ignore it. You can't fix stupid.They need to do away with that symbol and the dotted line path.
On a side note! Do you remember as a kid having the hurricane tracking maps? I grew up in Tampa for a good bit and I remember my dad tuning into the weather on the 6 o'clock news to get the latest coordinates and plotting it on the little fold up map. I forget where the maps came from. They probably came with the newspaper. That was the state of information technology in the late 50's and early 60's.
