@swvapanic sent out the following Tweets earlier today:
"If any of my followers did the super VIP at Lockn festival......you just lost your open bar....."
(In response to someone asking what happened)
"[they] dropped open bar for super VIP'ers and looks like they didn't fully research Virginia liquor laws in my opinion"
I've already inquired as to his source (answer pending). I'm calling it a rumor until we see something official, but I see no reason why a guy would make this up. Bummer for the gentry.
Edit: I initially labeled this a rumor, but it is indeed fact.

"We here at CID Entertainment are sorry to announce that we will no longer be able to provide an open bar as a part of your Super VIP package. The festival organizers have made this decision due to their desire to make Lockn' a safe environment that is embraced by the local community and welcomed back to Nelson County for years to come. Additionally, due to Virginia State Liquor Laws, all cash bars will be serving beer and wine only.
In addition to the private acoustic performance by Furthur, we are very excited to announce that Warren Haynes will be playing a Super VIP private solo acoustic set, for which he has become so well known for. More details to follow!"

Seriously, though, I would be pissed if I were going SVIP. You cannot put a price on four days of an open bar at a music festival

One more thing...why not offer Open Bar craft beer and wine instead of the liquor if liquor is the problem? The SVIP is 21 and older, so I don't see what the problem with open beer would be.

You can't let go and you can't hold on,
You can't go back and you can't stand still,
If the thunder don't get you then the lightning will.

Open Bar
Gained
Lunch and Dinner on Friday and Saturday
Solo Acoustic Set from Warren
A Super VIP only Viewing Area.
I'm interestested in where this Super VIP Viewing Area will be located. If it is truely Super, then I think the Gained is greater than the Loss.

My inner cynic tells me that they costlessly created the Super-VIP area by cutting into the original VIP area. Maybe ticket sales were slower than expected (or as expected for a first-year festival) and they had the x-people-per square foot ratio blocked out and realized they can do it without over-crowding the regular VIP section.
The rest of me wants to tell the inner cynic to chill out and remember that it's Peter Shapiro. He's always made for a good venue. Maybe they extend the side-of-stage relax area so you can see, maybe then brought in cranes to make a gigantic swinging platform 50' overhead. Maybe they just cordoned off a bit of the VIP section so we don't have to worry about getting and staying there.
Bottom line for us about the switch, if you showed us two options, one with open bar and one with heck, jsut the Warren Haynes show, forget the viewing area and food, we'd probably have opted for the music. It's all about the music.
Cynic would remind us that there's no real description of what "private" means, how many others will be there, who we'll have to miss to catch these performances, or whether the performances will be more than three songs.
Bite me, cynic.
