My eyeballs are still hurting from the Phil Zone and Facebook bitching, but honestly I'm torn (contemplated SVIP, but am only VIP). I didn't see anywhere it was going to be an "open topshelf bar" - but even assuming it was an "open well bar," $400 isn't much to spend over 4 days at at festival - even for people not being treated as professional alcoholics. Not sure what they charge in VA, but here in CA, even a well vodka/tonic averages $8-$10.

Is an extra couple meals, solo Warren, and new exclusive VIP viewing area worth it? I guess if you weren't planning on having 10 drinks a day it might be.

As a regular VIP guy, does this mean the new exclusive Super VIP viewing area is in front of me? That bums me out if it is because I chose to pass on the open bar, but opted for VIP instead of GA so I could hang out and dance with my Super VIP and VIP friends.

Cluster in the making or ironing out the kinks? Guess we'll all know in a week or so!

The biggest reason I kicked in the extra cash was acoustic Furthur. Booze would have been nice, but far from a deal-breaker for me. I'm looking forward to acoustic Warren; my only concern is missing other bands during these sessions.

That's what I thought when I heard special viewing area. Right in front, like at Waka, creating a moat for us GA's. Doesn't bother me too much now since Crazy Horse was the only act I really really wanted to rail for. For what Super VIP costs it could be side stage. We will find out soon.

My group is a mix of vip and svip. We were not looking for seperate viewing areas and tents when we decided. We're all planning to eat (great food) together, so nobody wanted a cafeteria plan. The relevant differences between the two were 1) Furthur set and 2) Top shelf open bar. I rarely drink alcohol so a $400 Furthur set when I'm already seeing 4 Furthur sets seemed a little steep. But to a few of my friends who really enjoy a nice bar, the $400 extra was quite easy to justify, regardless of the extra set. So it's a little annoying to have one of the two packages we all individually considered and weighed change completely. It's rocking our boat a little, and our SVIP folks are trying to figure out what they are going to do. They are hoping CID will downgrade them down to vip at the earlybird price, since they bought originally on the first day. Once that's worked out, we'll be back to being happy festival planners.

A lot of people are happy with the new deal. I think a lot of people aren't. It's kind of a big goof up, and people have a right to be upset. But I think people will get their refunds if they are too pissed, and generally everyone will be over it soon.

Re: Facebook, I think that people bitchin about the people who are bitchin is hysterical.
