My third time and better than the second, almost as good as the first (1972?). ETA: I went searching for a great You Tube clip of Leon and Glen Campbell doing Jambalaya and Truck Driving Man but it's been taken down due to copyrights. I think it came from the Shindig! show in the mid sixties. It was interesting to them so young. RIP Leon Russell, 2016 claims another great one. I took this shot at The Woods stage on the Nelson County Preserve.

So glad you posted that awesome shot! I knew somebody had a great one from that night. That was my first time seeing Leon. What a fantastic setting for the occasion.

Haul out your orange box Concert for Bangla Desh and spin the Youngblood/Jumping Jack Flash medley. That captures Leon the best in my view.

Wish I'd known how awesome he was earlier. Didn't stop me from getting excited about MD&E though! I will go to my grave singing the praises of that set!
FTW was my Watkins Glen and Lockn 2015 was my Woodstock.

Amen. Have you watched the MD&E movie? Recommend.
Look at all the studio and producing work he did, too. His fingerprints are everywhere.
Except on his country album, "Hank Wilson's Back." He wanted to do a country album in the 70s' but they said it would hurt his image. You remember, hippies against the rednecks and all that. So he did one anyway, but his name appears no where on it. But there's something about that album cover....
His true talents came out in the collaborations: Bangladesh, Woodstock, MD&E, studio work. He had a house/studio on a lake in Oklahoma where he'd open the sliding doors on Sunday and have jams with all sorts of famous and up-coming and session musicians, and everyone was welcome to anchor their boats out front on the lake and enjoy.
My local radio played the Youngblood/JJ Flash last night. Took me way way back to my teens. I still know every word. Used to belt it out hiking in the mountains. Hadn't been played on the radio since the demise of the underground FM album rock stations (ours was called WOWI).
