Rating America's most popular beer

I used to drink Miller High Life all the time as my go-to domestic but I think the flavor has changed to a sour edge. And same with Rolling Rock. But it could be me that changed.

I also think Miller Lite has more to it than the other lights; my wife drinks it and I have accidentally tasted hers once. and it has a darker richer color in a glass than the others, if that matters.

It's not a serious study and starts with sales as the entry ticket, but the author is a Portland foodie. Tongue in cheek or perhaps finger in throat.

I recall a brew pub with all its craft beers described on the menu and then for Bud it was something like "the full-flavor of St. Louis municipal water, with a faint hint of hops on the nose and a quick finish of salt."

I've seen pictures of breweries where the water fountain has a Bud Light tap on it.

Somebody would have to pay me to drink all... no, any of those.

My friend Eve and I went on a marathon drinking spree on Saturday. Because that's something that you should do less than two weeks after you get your gallbladder removed. But I was in Chicago and with Eve, so we did what Eve and I do when we're together. And at one point during bar #3, we both agreed that we needed "water beer." I opted for Miller Lite. I might as well have had regular water. During bar #5 (which happened to be the same bar as #3 as Eve had left her phone there) we opted for Guinness as our "water beer." Much better on the flavor. Not really much more alcohol. I don't remember drinking any "water beer" at bar #6...but I suspect there are many things I don't remember about bar #6. I do, however, remember that the place had video monitors with live feed of the tattoo parlor next door...

Guinness is 4.1 - 4.3% ABV. Not that strong at all. Being so darkly malty (read: full of sugar) probably leads to a fairly mean hangover if abused though.
