What are you watching?

Today I did a Netflix comedy marathon: new stand up special shows by Louis CK, Amy Schumer, and Dave Chappelle.  I like all of them for their sketch TV shows, but I have never watched much of their stand up.



Well, I didn't make it to the end of Louis; I enjoyed Amy but was glad when it finished; but Chappelle, honestly, made me LOL, something I don't do with TV very often.

Not Seinfeld.

I liked Legion. Very strange. Good storytelling.

I am having lunch with about a dozen Viet Nam vets this week, from grunts to pilots.  Looking forward to hearing their thoughts on the show.

Watched last night and am DVRing the rest.

FYI, the episodes can be streamed on the PBS app on Roku players. Another reason I am annoyed at dropping the $50 on Amazon. Still a good cause though...

I don't know whether watching thru PBS "supports" them but if it does, that's better than giving money to the Walmart of the Skies

It serves as a difficult reminder of what those guys went through on the ground. That was bad enough without the political side. It teaches us not to blame the foot soldier for wrong causes.

It's amazing they have a mother and sister of a boy who was killed who are so able to present their loss then and now, to represent the tens of thousands more.

My wife and I just finished watching Band of Brothers and then The Pacific, so we have recently seen the perspective of young men in warfare in general. Also we didn't really know many Viet Nam vets but our parents and relatives were in WWII (Dad was on Iwo Jima at 19).

One of the speakers in the series is Phillip Caputo, a reporter then and who wrote one of the best books on what combat does to the individual, called "A Rumor of War." Set in Viet Nam, it ranks with Red Badge and All's Quiet. "The Things They Carried" is another great book about the soldiers and the human side.

Not sure if PBS would get a cut of the Amazon subscription, depends on whether they produced some. I assume Ken Burns would get a decent cut and given he has decided to drop this on PBS rather than the History channel or some other place he could make a lot more money, I think it supports at least a good means to an end. His Civil War doc was amazing. I think i have seen The War too, but would need to back and watch it again to confirm. Seen a lot of versions of WWII docs.
