To VIP or not to VIP...

Just messing. If you browse enough threads you will see the running joke. Personally, i have never done it since its too rich for my blood and am perfectly content slumming with the commoners. There are plenty on here that have though and am sure will give you the run down.

Even tho I have never done VIP in the two years I have attended, I am with Smosey on this one. If you're not staying on-site, I can't see the large difference in price to be worth it. Save your $ for posters, beer, wine & other goodies.

The seated, elevated platform was the reason my BIL did VIP. He stayed in Lynchburg.

Put my 2 cents in for staying on site. Strongly recommended no matter what you do, even if you have to rent an RV or something like that. It's just not the same.

The late night shows, would never ever have made it if we weren't on site. The late night with Mickey Hart two years ago, that was a lifetime peak experience for me.

My wife and I went to Desert Trip out in California in October. It was good but we stayed off site, we have so much more fun on site. Of course we have a class A rv which helps but still.

For us staying onsite is the only option. I live close enough to drive back and forth each day but it just wouldn't be the same. Walking home from a late night party this year as the sun rose over a sea of tents, buses and campers is a memory that I will not soon forget and one that I wouldn't have if I stayed offsite. To the orginial question I agree with hondo that VIP RV is the only choice for us. We do it for the same reasons as they do, primarily access. One great VIP perk in years 2 and 3 were the VIP viewing area and the elevated platforms. Since they reconfigured the viewing areas it really benefitted the GA patrons but has left the VIP viewing experience lacking. 

I've done SVIP every year. The biggest perk is camping location. Like everyone else said, if you are staying offsite might not be worth it.

You gotta get yourself an RJ. They're dead useful. Remember, I stayed off-site and never missed any latenights. I missed some undercard, but let's face it: on-site or off-site, you can't do it all.

All replies have good points. For my band of fest goers, we do both. We stay off site in a hotel and also do VIP with VIP camping. We set up for early bird Wednesday morning n VIP camping and stay at hotel during the evenings. Nothing like sleeping in a real bed and showering the days grunge off of you at night. The next day have a nice breakfast at hotel and go back to hang at our VIP camping and pick and choose which bands we want to see and which bands we put on the back burner for a little siesta time.
