Phil Lesh - 40th Anniversary of Terrapin Station

1. Will it get the Mad Dogs treatment with a bunch of cool guests and potentially turn into a Friday night headliner? Or will it likely be a Saturday or Sunday dinner time show with Phil, his son, and a few other relative unknowns (at least compared to Phil's past Lockn' line-ups).
2. Are Donna and Phil on good terms? If so, why not have her as a guest? I've never been a big fan of her singing, but her voice is all over that album and it would be a nice touch to have her up there, particularly on Sunrise.
3. Since they are playing the whole album, will they play the entire Terrapin Station song? Whenever I saw the Dead or any of the later spin-off bands play it, they always played the first half and then either faded into Drums or melted into another song. I say play the whole thing, and bring in an orchestra and some of those wacky Renaissance Faire sounding horns.

2. I have no idea what Phil and Donna's relationship is. I'm not against seeing her on principle (I am not the biggest Donna fan) but maybe the only thing worse than Phil struggling his way through Terrapin would be Phil and Donna "harmonizing" on Terrapin...
3. No idea what they will do. I think if you are doing a tribute/play through an album, you should play through the whole album...

playing Terrapin which hopefully they will be practicing all summer and a Phil & Friends show similar to what we've gotten in the past.
What happens if I take both?

Since this is the initial Lockn announcement, much could change including personnel.
MD&E, on the other hand, re-created a "supergroup" which is a totally different project than just playing out an album.
Donna's voice isn't much now. Saw her open for DSO several years ago. Meh.
BTW here's some wiki history on the song: Terrapin Station Part 1" was never performed live in full. Recordings of live performances listed "Terrapin Station" generally refer to the first three parts of the song that appeared on the studio album, and were usually 10-15 minutes in length. It was played live some 302 times starting on February 26, 1977 at the Swing Auditorium in San Bernardino, California. The most complete performance, which includes parts of the sections 'Terrapin Transit', 'At a Siding' (without lyrics), and 'Terrapin Flyer' was performed on March 18, 1977 at Winterland Arena in San Francisco

We have a draft where you get to pick musicians and band names. All season long you can trade with other players based on rumor of the day hour. Your roster is locked on the Wednesday before Lockn. Player whose fantasy lineup most resembles the real lineup gets an amazing prize, like an unplayed cassette of Terrapin Station, or a bamboo pole for your tribes flag.
In the event of a tie, winner will be determined by a drawing conducted by the boards absentee landlord. Draft to be held on 4/1/2107.

What did Phil do to Santana at L2? I recall Phil keeping him on a short leash, but was there something else?
Also, listening now to the Family Bald playing Terrapin. Music is decent, but vocal are lacking and yes Phil is singing.

Santana was with Phil at L3.

Agreed....Saw the same clip. Personally I think it's a time slot better filled.

L1 seeing phil out at the late nite hinterlands stage play w the family band was a treat - first time for me and loved it. it's great to see him enjoying himself that much. it's not primetime mainstage headline material though.
last year phil's sets were in the afternoon, well placed imo, and both days were good. espec the dusters/derek&susan day.
he's earned the right to dwtfhw (do whatever the fuck he wants) in my book. doesn't mean i'm going to love everything equally, just means i don't begrudge him for his choices.

As far as "earning the right" I have to disagree. He's famous, sure, and remains active in the music scene, but he's no front man. He reminds me of when I saw Manzarak running a Doors reprise--he seemed to forget he wasn't the essence of the band even though he was important. At the end of the day, Phil's just the bass player.
