Welcome to the Lockn' Forum - The home of the original Lockn' Music Festival family!
That's funny--the Onion usually nails it. Back when Blockbuster was going on, a private video rental store had a chain of "paper dolls" cut out of Blockbuster membership cards. Blockbuster is gone. That video store is still there--with the paperdoll chain. It has become a film archive library (and has moved to DVD and Bluetooth) with non-profit status, funded by grants and donations and operations. The people who work there are serious film buffs. They often group movies by director rather than "drama" or "comedy." Lots of foreign, art, MUSIC, TV Series; good source for old westerns and classics, and indies. Like so many small shops--record stores, book stores, hardware stores, etc.--they survive because they are the only one; they struggled when there was one on every corner. Support your local! Please note: This forum is in no way officially associated with Lockn' Festival or its promoters.
Avett Brothers

anybody have recommendations for a specific show to listen to? I'd prefer something recent and representative of what they might be playing at Lockn.
I am not wholly unfamiliar w/ Avett Brothers, but neither am I really familiar with their music.

If you live where I think you do, then a trip to Birdland in Virginia Beach would be a wonderful way to enjoy this fine weather. And Barry will set you up with music you know and better, music you don't know but will love. He's spooky that way.

Id rather listen to a live show than a CD. I am not wholly opposed to buying a CD, but music is always better live.

They've released a few live albums throughout the years I'd try live Volume 3 and 4 if you want to get a hold on their current sound

Not exactly an answer to your question- but I saw Avett Bros at Forecastle in 2013 (or 14?). Out of a weekend with SCI, SCI w/ Sam Bush Bluegrass jam, Robert Plant and the Sensational Spaceshifters, Flaming Lips, and others we thought Avett Bros had the standout show of the weekend. This will be my first LOCKN, but I definitely don't think they'll disappoint.
Also, I believe they did a Dear Jerry show with a bunch of JGB covers, that Warren Haynes joined them for. So that could be a collaboration possibility.
